Reekers dominant among Kiwis in Netherlands season Lynn McConnell - 3 September 2001
Canterbury's Darren Reekers completed an outstanding season in Netherlands cricket this summer, but it wasn't enough to help his Quick Haag side to the Dutch championship. That honour went to VRA, the club of Craig Cumming and former New Zealand internationals Shane Thomson and Chris Pringle. Reekers' side finished third equal in the championship with Gary Stead's Rood & Wit side, 11 points adrift of VRA. But there was no doubting his performances with the bat and ball. He scored 911 runs in 15 innings and averaged 65.07 for the summer, hitting four centuries and four 50s. He backed that by picking up 21 wickets at an average of 16.85. Pringle was the best of the New Zealand bowlers taking 25 wickets at 11.08. Stead also completed a top summer. He scored 714 runs at 64.90 with a century and seven 50s, and chimed in with 20 wickets at a cost of 18.95. Full averages of New Zealand players in the Netherlands this year were:
