Golden Oldies part of Canterbury celebrations Lynn McConnell - 8 October 2001
A Golden Oldies Cricket Festival has been planned as part of the celebrations for Canterbury Cricket's 125th anniversary in March. The event is built around the visit by England to the region for a match with Canterbury and the first Test of the three-Test series with the CLEAR Black Caps. Organisers are hopeful of attracting as many players and cricket lovers from throughout Canterbury, New Zealand and overseas to participate in activities. The Golden Oldies programme opens with cricket matches on Sunday, March 10. A golf tournament has been organised for the Harewood Golf Club on March 11. More cricket follows on Tuesday, March 12 while Wednesday will see the opening day of the first Test where it is hoped new facilities will be open in the newly-build stand at Jade Stadium. A celebration dinner is planned for the Casino, limited to 260 guests on Thursday, March 14 with a panel of three celebrities to be the highlight of the evening. © CricInfo
