It's his at last - Adam Parore owns the New Zealand wicket-keeping record that he says has been in his mind since he first played international cricket.

Today, in Pakistan's record 104 run dismissal, its lowest in New Zealand, at Hamilton, Parore's final catch of four, to dismiss Fazl-e-Akbar took him past Ian Smith's record of 176 wicket-keeping dismissals.

"I've been counting it down for a while," he said.

Now he's set his sights on 300 dismissals in 100 Test matches.

Parore, nick-named Maverick, has been exactly that in a sometimes stormy international career, but there is a much more relaxed look to the record-holder in recent times and from a playing point of view he believes he is showing much more consistency in his play.

"I'm keeping better than ever in my New Zealand career," he said.

The day had been one of the more emphatic days he had been associated with in his 70 Tests for New Zealand.

The bowlers hadn't been as accurate as they had been on some other occasions but they had "bowled enough wicket-taking balls," he said.

"The wicket did a bit, but not as much as expected."

Although New Zealand wrapped up the innings in 128 minutes it had felt to Parore like they had been out in the middle for much longer.

He couldn't recall many occasions quite like that the Pakistanis manufactured but just wanted to make sure that New Zealand takes advantage of the opportunity it has created.
