Canterbury and Central women complete weekend doubles Lynn McConnell - 28 January 2001
Canterbury had a 54-run win over Otago in the State Insurance Cup game at the Village Green in Christchurch today. Paula Flannery put Canterbury in a good position when batting first in the State Insurance Cup. The CLEAR White Fern scored 104 not out in Canterbury's total of 222/6. Nicola Payne scored 33 and Haidee Tiffen 20. Her New Zealand team-mate Rachel Pullar took 2-53 off her 10 overs while England international Clare Taylor took 1-41 off her 10. Megan Kane took 1-30 and Kirsten Spence 1-47. Rachel Pullar was the best of the Otago batsmen with 41 while the Canterbury draft player Kirsty Craig scored 24 batting at No 9. But Haidee Tiffen with 3-39 off 10 while Nicky Payne took 3-22 off her 10 overs. Central Districts' good news day continued at Kelburn in Wellington when it took its second win from Wellington in two days, and by the emphatic margin of 10 wickets. Wellington batted first and scored 178/9. White Fern Anna O'Leary top scored with 66 while Jo Trendle scored 27 in an opening stand of 95 with O'Leary. Maia Lewis hit 23. Erin McDonald had the return of the day with 4-40 from her 10 overs while Megan Graham took 2-37 from eight overs. Phillippa Gerrish was in top form with the bat for CD and saw the team home for a 10-wicket win although she was one short of what would have been a deserved milestone when 99 not out when the winning runs were scored. Her opening partner Cindy Forsyth was 59 not out. Few of the Wellington bowlers made an impact although Anna Corbin had 0-16 from her 10 overs and Amanda Green had 0-19 from her six. © CricInfo
