Crowe's position clarified by his lawyer
Lynn McConnell - 25 January 2001

Former New Zealand cricket captain Martin Crowe has reiterated his willingness to work with New Zealand Cricket's inquiry into allegations made against him by an Indian bookmaker.

In a specially-released statement today from his solicitor, David Howman of Wellington, that point was made by Howman.

The statement said: "Martin Crowe wishes to reconfirm his position as far as the New Zealand Cricket Inquiry is concerned.

"As previously stated he has expressly agreed to co-operate at all times with the New Zealand Inquiry headed by Sir Ian Barker and consequently with any request to partake in the investigation undertaken by the ICC [International Cricket Council] Anti-Corruption Unit headed by Sir Paul Condon.

"He is ready to be interviewed whenever asked and has always been so ready.

"Neither the New Zealand Inquiry nor the ACU has requested information from him nor invited him to attend for interview.

"Martin has been advised by the New Zealand Inquiry that it is investigating the allegations relating to him, and in co-operation with the ACU will involve him where appropriate in any such investigation before inviting him for any response.

"Martin Crowe has not had any further contact with either Inquiry Team and remains ready and willing to be involved when and if asked."

Howman said since the allegations were first made his and Crowe's position had been one of, "We are waiting, waiting, waiting and ready."
