MILO trophies decided for 2001 in wet in Palmerston North Lynn McConnell - 13 December 2001
Viscount Navigator School of Mangere is the intermediate/primary schoolgirls' cricket champion after winning the MILO Shield in Palmerston North today while the boys' MILO Cup will be shared between Havelock North Intermediate and Rosedale Intermediate of Invercargill. Conditions in Palmerston North were atrocious midway through the afternoon and New Zealand Cricket administrator Alec Astle made the decision the title should be shared in the boys competition. Games were played on artificial wickets at Hokowhitu Park. In the girls' game, contested over 25 overs, the Aucklanders batted first and scored 124/4. Zantana Hagaitoa scored 45 and Alysha Hukatai 33 in a 97-run first wicket stand. Woodend Primary School of Canterbury were dismissed in the 15th over for 32 with Hukatai taking three wickets for three runs, Hagaitoa four for 17 and Fa'anati Aniseko two for five. Of the play possible in the boys' final, Havelock North Intermediate were put into bat by Rosedale and in 35 overs they scored 211/9. Andrew McKnight scored 72, Ryan O'Sullivan 33 and Henry Hewat 32. Andrew Leckie took two for 26 and Tom Flaus two for 18. After 12 overs in reply, Rosedale were 48/2 when the rains came and the abandonment was made soon after. © CricInfo
