Vettori to be assessed on Tuesday Lynn McConnell - 22 September 2000
Injured New Zealand left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori will have his latest back injury assessed in Christchurch on Tuesday. Vettori has flown back to New Zealand from Zimbabwe where he injured his back during the first Test win by the Kiwis. He was unable to bowl during the second innings having bowled 52 overs during the first innings. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) chief executive Christopher Doig told CricInfo that Vettori will meet with local sports medicine expert Rob Campbell and local specialist Graham Inglis. "The word we have is the injury is not related to the previous back injury Daniel suffered," Doig said. "That is probably good news, but we do want to get to the bottom of the problem." Doig did not accept that over-bowling in the first innings, given the problems Vettori had earlier in they year, was a factor. "He bowled 30 overs on one day and 20 the next and before the test he was on track. I'm not convinced over-bowling was the case," he said. © CricInfo
