Positive signs from Max visits already in the south Lynn McConnell - 19 October 2000
Otago's move to play one of its Super Max games with Canterbury in Gore seems set to be a hit. While the match will be played in the afternoon on Sunday, October 29, it will be preceded by a cricket field day in Gore with Otago players and coaches involved in spreading the cricket word among young enthusiasts in the area. Otago Cricket Association marketing manager Marija Vidovich said the small Eastern Southland town does not have its own team in the Southland competition but it does have 300 young players taking part in cricket every Saturday. The Gore game is being played on an artificial wicket at Hamilton Park. "The local people are rallying around the match and we will have the local radio station Hokonui Gold fully involved during the match. "On Friday, October 27 in Green Island we will have players and coaches visiting four schools in the area, and we will be doing similar things in Invercargill before the game there on October 30," she said. The visits will be complemented by the Milo cricket programme. "There's a really good feeling down in Invercargill as well and some really positive things are happening," she said. The Invercargill game will be played on the suburban ground at Appleby Park. © CricInfo
