Teams moving into Lincoln complex for tomorrow's World Cup opening
Lynn McConnell - 27 November 2000

New Zealand and England were the first teams to move into the Lincoln University complex today on the eve of the CricInfo Women's World Cup.

The two sides completed their Cup preparations with a three-match warm-up series last week with New Zealand taking a 3-0 win.

The New Zealanders spent a few days at home before reassembling in Christchurch last night while the English did some sight seeing around the Canterbury region.

Other sides have had two warm-up matches at various points around New Zealand.

India played out a thrilling tie with Wellington. Batting first, India scored 147-6 and with former New Zealand captain Maia Lewis getting a start on her comeback from injury Wellington had every show. Unfortunately, Wellington needing two runs with three balls to play to win, failed to score off the first and then lost successive wickets with Lewis stranded on 72 not out.

Smitha Harikrishna took 4-17 for India.

Australia, after swamping Otago yesterday, was given a much tougher match today and could claim only a 10-run win after Otago produced a composite side, including members of the Australian squad and some male players, including the Otago Cricket Association's director of coaching Michael Hesson.

He took the opportunity to score 111 in the Otago chase for Australia's 204-5.

South Africa took a good four wicket win from a sound Canterbury side with Sunette Viljoen scoring 83 not out.

The Netherlands suffered their second defeat by Central Districts at Napier's Nelson Park.

Batting first, the Netherlands made 148/6, a target Central Districts achieved for the loss of one wicket.

Scores: Netherlands 148-6 (C Salomons 51, P te Beest 36; K Legg 4-38) lost to Central Districts 149-1 (K Legg 57no, S Duffill 32, C Forsyth 28no) by nine wickets.

Canterbury 175-5 (L Olivier 44, S Helmore 44, M Fahey 41) lost to South Africa 176-6 ( S Viljoen 83no, D Terblanche 29; S Charteris 3-33) by four wickets.

Australia 204-5 (L Keightley 58, O Magno 28, Z Goss 27no; A Kane 3-33, S Tsukigawa 2-27) beat Australian Southern Stars 194-9 (M Hesson 111, J Broadbent 47; Z Goss 2-30, C Fitzpatrick 1-18, L Broadfoot 1-24) by 10 runs.

India 147-6 (A Jain 37, C Kaul 25, P Rao 44; F Stickney 2-20) tied with Wellington 147-8 (M Lewis 72no; S Harikrishna 4-17).

Northern Districts 117 (S Sandilands 16, A Spedding 16, N Brown 16; S Young 4-15, M Grealey 2-7, B McDonald 1-21) lost to Ireland 118-6 (K O'Neill 26no, M Grealey 24no; H Partridge 2-25, J Stafford 1-17) by four wickets.
