Auckland's weather causes postponement of Super Max semis Lynn McConnell - 8 November 2000
Miserable weather has forced the cancellation of this weekend's Shell Super Max semi-finals at Eden Park's Outer Oval. New Zealand Cricket's administration manager Tim Murdoch said at the initiative of Auckland it had been decided to cancel this weekend's three games. "There has been no chance to prepare a pitch for the game due to the weather and the outlook is no better. There is a very bad forecast," he said. "In consultation with the associations concerned [Auckland, Wellington and Otago] it was decided that it saves teams coming up here and hanging around waiting for the rain to stop," he said. As a result a finals weekend will now be played next week involving the three semi-finalists with a final being played on Sunday afternoon. Concerns in Otago that it would have to play two games in a revised draw in the original semi-finals planned for this weekend have been allayed in a system that will now be fairer for all teams concerned. "It is probably a fairer way for the regional sides to play off," Murdoch said. The draw for games will be:
