Trist will not renew coaching contract Lynn McConnell - 7 December 2000
On the eve of the Third New Zealand-South Africa Test at the Wanderers Ground, Johannesburg, New Zealand Cricket has advised that coach David Trist he will not seek a renewal of his contract at the end of his two-year term. It had been little short of an open secret that Trist would not be renewing his role in recent weeks. New Zealand Cricket operations manager John Reid said today that Trist had sent a letter of resignation following the CLEAR Black Caps 2-0 series win over Zimbabwe in September. Reid said he had been trying to persuade Trist to continue through until the 2003 World Cup but had been unsuccessful. "David Trist is a kplayers' coach. He has quietly set about reinforcing team protocols and providing the positive leadership that has seen the New Zealand team continue to develop as a competitive unit. "Ideally, we would like David to continue through to the next World Cup but we entirely respect his decision not to seek a renewal of his contract," Reid said. Trist's last involvement with the Black Caps will be their mid-winter tour to Sri Lanka at the end of the New Zealand domestic season. © CricInfo
