Canterbury depth showcased Lynn McConnell - 15 August 2000
Canterbury's cricketing depth was highlighted when convener Ben Harris named his squad today to prepare under coach Garry MacDonald in the lead-up to the new season. This is despite the fact that 11 potential players are out of the province for different reasons. Features of the squad are the return of Shane Bond from New Zealand Police Training College and the inclusion of promising young left-arm slow bowler James Gardiner from Marlborough. The squad is: Brad Doody, Darren Walker, Harley James, Mark Lane, Robbie Frew, Scott Pawson, Wade Cornelius, Clayton Cornelius, Jeremy Innes, James Gardiner, Hayden Shaw, Shane Bond, Hamish Barton, Andrew Ellis, Mark Hastings. In service with the New Zealand team for Singapore are: Geoff Allott, Nathan Astle, Chris Cairns, Chris Harris and Craig McMillan. In India with the New Zealand A team are: Michael Papps, Jarrod Englefield, Aaron Redmond and Chris Martin.
