Hong Kong, October 5: Dominic Cork will spearhead England's bid to regain the Cathay Pacific/Standard Chartered Hong Kong International Cricket Sixes title next month.
The four-time winners have selected a powerful seven-man squad for the 12th edition of the world's richest and most prestigious Sixes tournament at the Kowloon Cricket Club (KCC) on November 11-12.
Joining Cork in the line-up will be Darren Gough, Kabir Ali, Tim Bresnan, Glen Chapple, Darren Maddy and Mal Loye, who has been designated as the wicket-keeper.
The announcement of such a strong team will ensure that England are installed among the favourites in the nine-nation tournament that also includes Australia, Hong Kong, defending champions India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and West Indies.
David Graveney, England's chairman of selectors and the England manager for the Hong Kong event, said: "The England team has enjoyed a good deal of success in the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes over recent years.
"We have not considered players named in the England Academy squad or the Ashes squads but have selected a very strong squad of players exceptionally well suited to this format of cricket, four of whom have represented England in One-Day International cricket this year.
"We have not selected a specialist wicket-keeper for the squad as Mal Loye is capable with the gloves and his explosive batting should be a real asset for the team."
Clive Howard, Chairman of the Hong Kong Cricket Association (HKCA), said: "It's a testament to the standing of the Cathay Pacific/Standard Chartered Hong Kong International Cricket Sixes that England are once more sending such a strong team and are clearly intent on winning the title for the fifth time."
Former Test representatives Cork, Maddy and Ali were all part of the England team that finished third in Hong Kong last year.
Ali also played a key role in England's triumphs of 2003 and 2004, when he was voted man-of-the-match in the final defeat of Sri Lanka.
The official draw for this year's tournament will be made on Monday (October 9)
