Hello and welcome to Cricinfo's live coverage of the final of the
Indian Oil Cup, 2005.
As you all know it's going to be Sri Lanka v India, Venue -
Premadasa Stadium, Khettarama, Colombo.
What a fantastic tournament we have had so far, low scoring
thrillers, shock wins, fantabulous comebacks, and the list goes
on..., and now it's down to this one match - winner takes it all!
Past wins, past defeats nothing counts now, it's going to be the
better team on this day that is going to dance around the cup at
the end of the day.
Weather looks good and already it's a packed house, the atmosphere
is electric and hopefully the cricket will be the same.
Traditionally this has been a bat-first ground, only 35 per cent of
the matches played here have been won by the team batting second
and this being a final will add to the pressure.
Sri Lankan captain Marvan Atapattu has won the toss and elected to
bat first
Sri Lanka are fielding a full-strength side for the first time in
the tournament, Chaminda Vaas makes his return to International
cricket after a hamstring strain sustained in last month's Test
series against the West Indies.
Sanath Jayasuriya, who needs just 10 runs to join the 10,000-run
elite club is also 100 per cent fit, he missed two matches this
tournament, due to a shoulder injury sustained in the first match
against India.
Also back in is Atapattu, who missed the last league match against
West Indies due to fever and he is all set to open with his
regular partner Jayasuriya.
Good news for India is that Ganguly, the one person who has
delivered consistently come the final, is match-fit and has been
included in the team, though Dravid will continue as captain.
Ashoka de Silva and Simon Taufel are the umpires for today's match.
India go in with five bowlers! that's a bit of surprise - can't
remember the last time that happened
