A big Hello and a warm welcome to Cricinfo's live coverage of the
Sri Lankan tour of India, 2005-06.
It is going to be a 7 match ODI series, and today Vidarbha C.A.
Ground, Nagpur will play host to the lung opener.
Rahul Dravid has finally concreted his place as captain of the
Indian team, well at least for the next two series, and Sachin
Tendulkar who has been out of action with an injured elbow since
April is back in the reckoning
- that coupled with few talented young players looking to prove
themselves makes it a new beginning of sorts for Indian cricket.
But they are up against a team jam-packed with proven match winners
and as in life nothing will come easy.
Sri Lankans were given a wake up call by the Mumbai Cricket
Association President's XI when the latter sneaked home to a
thrilling three-wicket win in a one day tour match held last
weekend.
The battle lines have been drawn - the lions are awake and the
tigers are ready, Whatever the outcome, it is going to be one
exciting series - that's for sure.
News from the middle is that Rahul Dravid has won the toss and
elected to bat first.

351 was always going to be a tough chase and to add to the misery
Sri Lanka lost Atapattu early, once the partnership between
Sangakkara and Jayasuriya was broken things became easy for the
Indians
the spinners did the damage early on and Santh on debut chipped in
with two wickets
Vaas and Dilhara put up a fighting partnership for the 9th wicket
but it was too little too late.
It was a good professional performance from the Indians - they now
lead the 7 match series 1-0.

Atapattu - '350 was a lot of runs, it was a good wicket to bat on
early on, full credits to the Indians - It is really hard to
contain someone like Sachin when he is in full flow, he and Pathan
did the damage early on -
