Hello and welcome to Cricinfo's live coverage of the South African
tour of India.
My Name is Sajan Nair and I will be your commentator for the day -
glad you could join us.
Once again it is going to be just ODIs and it is going to be
another long spectacle after the recently concluded 7 match series
between India and Sri Lanka.
This series consists of 5-ODIs which will be played over the next
two weeks, today Hyderabad will play host to the lung opener, rest
of the matches will be played at Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata and
the last match will be played at Mumbai on the 28th.
The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium makes its International
debut today, there is still construction in progress around much
of the stadium perimeter but the outfield and pitch appears to be
in perfect condition.
Both South Africa and India come in to the series with astounding
homes series wins behind their backs -
South Africa demolished the Kiwis in a five match series which
they won 4-0 and the Indians wrapped up an amazing 6-1 victory
over their neighbors Sri Lanka.
That is one thing these two teams have in common which makes this
series a highly anticipated one.
Team India seems to have finally got their act together - this new
breed is a good mixture of proven players and young talents ready
to take on the world,
that coupled with an innovative captain and a resourceful coach
makes it one of the most promising outfits in world cricket today.
South Africa have slowly built up this team after a forgettable
2004 season, but for the last one year they have been playing some
amazing cricket,
out of the last 19 matches played they have won 16 - tied one and
two matches were interrupted by the weather and they are closing
in on Australia's 21-match unbeaten run.
South Africa were forced to make few changes to the squad that
played against New Zealand, The Indian selectors on the other hand
have opted to carry on with the squad that played against Sri
Lanka.
Now for the important news - South African captain Graeme Smith has
won the toss and elected to bowl first.
As the saying goes 'When in doubt bowl first' and this being the
first match at this stadium Smith was quick to make up his mind -
Dravid at the toss also indicated that he would have elected to
bowl first had he won the toss.

then Agarkar came in and played few good shot and towards the end
Harbhajan capitalized on some bad bowling to take Indian to 249.
250 is certainly not a match winning total, the wicket seems to
have slowed down considerably and batting will get bit hard as the
day progress but with the kind of batting line-up they have, at
the moment it's surely advantage South Africa.

started off well with Smith taking on the bowlers from the word go
- even though de Villiers fell early Smith continued with his
attacking stroke play and added 48 runs in just 36 balls.
Indians had a ray of hope when Prince and Boucher departed in the
space of two overs but Kallis played a patient innings and towards
the end Kemp chipped in with 49 runs and that took South Africa to
a deserving win.
And with this win South Africa have extended their unbeaten run to
20 matches and now they are just one win away from equaling
Australia's record(21 matches)
