5th Match: India v New Zealand at Harare, 2 Sep 2005

Ball-by-Ball Commentary

Match State: Match start scheduled for 9.30am local time (7.30am GMT)

Good Afternoon and welcome to Cricinfo's live coverage of the fifth
match of the Videocon Cup Tri Series, 2005.
Black caps are playing good cricket all round, and once again they
got past Zimbabwe in the fourth match of the tournament without
much trouble, their third consecutive win of the series.
Kiwis have already booked their place in the final and as far as
India are concerned this is a crucial encounter, a win here today
will take them through to the final which is to be held on the 6th
        of this month,
on the other hand if they lose today, Sunday's match against
Zimbabwe will become a virtual semi-final.
Batsmen performing under-par is the one thing that is worrying
India at the moment and the fans will be hoping for a much
        improved performance from them today.
Bowling is one department that has performed well, probably much
more than expected, Pathan and Nehra in particular are in good
form and once again they will be the key.
Sehwag, who was running a temperature is said to be improving well
but it is not certain if he will feature in the final line-up and
to add to the misery, Ganguly too fell pray to the fever bug and
he missed a net session yesterday,
we will have to wait for the toss to see the starting lineup.
Harare Sports Club is bathed in sun shine and once again conditions
        are perfect for cricket.
Kevan Barbour and Ian Howell are the umpires for today's match, Ian
Robinson is the TV umpire and Roshan Mahanama is the ICC match-
        referee.
News from the middle is that, New Zealand captain Steven Fleming
was won the toss and elected to bat first.
My name is Sajan Nair, and i will be your commentator for the day.
It looks like a good surface to bat on, and at the Toss Ganguly
indicated that he too would have opted to bat first had he won the
        toss.
India - Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Yuvraj
Singh, Mohammad Kaif, MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan,
Ajit Agarkar, Ashish Nehra, JP Yadav and Murali Karthik(Supersub).
New Zealand - Stephen Fleming, Nathan Astle, Lou Vincent, Hamish
Marshall, Craig McMillan, Scott Styris, Chris Cairns, Brendon
McCullum, Jacob Oram, Kyle Mills, Andre Adams and Jeetan
        Patel(Supersub).
Andre Adams has been drafted in to the eleven in place of Shane
        Bond who is being rested.
Good news for India as Ganguly and Sehwag make it to the final
eleven, India go in with three seamers, an all-rounder and
        Harbhajan Singh.
Fleming and Astle will open the innings for New Zealand and it will
be Ashish Nehra to start the bowling attack.
Nehra is at the top of his run-up, two slips and a gully in place -
        here we go!
0.1 Nehra to Fleming, no run, good delivery to start off, pitched up
and swinging away from the left-hander, Fleming carefully leaves
        it for the keeper
0.2 Nehra to Fleming, no run, closer to the off stump line and opens up
Fleming, defended down to the mid-off region, well played in the
        end.
0.3 Nehra to Fleming, one run, short of a good length delivery outside
the off stump, Fleming plays it late, get it wide of the fielder
at gully and they cross over for a well judged single. New Zealand
        and Fleming off the mark.
0.4 Nehra to Astle, no run, on the middle and leg stump line, defended
        watchfully

Match State: Innings Break

       Welcome back
New Zealand got off to a good start but India pulled things back
with some excellent fielding and things were under control until
McCullum showed up - he started smashing the ball to all the
        corners of the ground
and under pressure the fielding became sloppy and things started to
        fall apart for India.
Both Agarkar and Pathan went for runs and New Zealand ended up with
        an imposing total.
Sehwag is due for a good score and the fans will be hoping that he
strikes gold here today - if India are to successfully chase down
this total their top order batsmen will have deliver.
and that won't be easy with the likes of Adams, Mills and Oram in
        the line-up
all in all the match is set up nicely and it's going to be another
        exciting few hours of cricket
Ganguly and Sehwag will open the innings for India and it will Kyle
Mills to start the bowling attack.
two slips in place for the right-hander
supersub has been introduced by the Kiwis, Jeetan Patel comes in
        replacing McMillan.
0.1 Mills to Sehwag, three runs, short of good length delivery outside
the off stump and Sehwag pierces the cover field with a well timed
back-foot drive, long chase and diving effort saves one run.
0.2 Mills to Ganguly, no run, bouncer on the middle and off stump line,
good ball to get first up, Ganguly ducks under it
0.3 Mills to Ganguly, no run, pushed away on the off side
0.4 Mills to Ganguly, one run, punched down to the mid-off region,
Ganguly off the mark with an easy single
