Hello and a warm welcome to Cricinfo's live coverage of the
Videocon Cup triangular tournament, 2005.
Today India take on New Zealand in the second match of the series
at the Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo.
I am Sajan Nair, and i will be your commentator for the day.
Let me give you the important news first, New Zealand captain
Steven Fleming has won the toss and elected to bat first.
The Black Caps will be on a batting high after their massive win
over hosts Zimbabwe in the opening match of the tournament, a
match in which they managed to score 397 in 44 overs!, the second
highest total in ODI history.
With the Kiwis having acclimatized to the conditions and playing
good cricket it will be the Indians who will start off as
underdogs.
This is the first tournament in which India is playing, involving
Supersubs and Powerplays, it will be interesting to see their
approach.
Ganguly is back at the helm of the Indian team, with his captaincy
and form in question and with a rapidly growing list of critics
he will be under pressure here to perform well.
The Weather looks perfect, it's bright and sunny at the moment and
the forecast too is promising. Thankfully, this time around the
pitch is in good shape, and play will start on time.
Good news for the New Zealand fans as Nathan Astle who was nursing
an injured finger is match fit and he has been included in the
playing eleven.
Before this India and New Zealand have met 72 times in one-day
internationals. India have won 35 and New Zealand 33, with four
no-results.
