Ball-by-Ball Commentary

Match State: Match start scheduled for 1.45pm local time (3.15am GMT)

Hello and a warm welcome to you wherever you are to Cricinfo's
continuing live coverage of the VB series, 2006.
As you all know it is going to be best-of-three finals and today
Adelaide Oval will play host to the first of the three finals.
Incidentally this is going to be the first ever final to be held
        at this venue!
second final will be played at Sydney and the third, if necessary,
will be played at the Brisbane Cricket ground.
I'm Sajan Nair, your commentator for the day.
Australia romped into the final winnings 6 of their 8 games and
they topped the table with 27 points, Sri Lanka on the other hand
had to chop and cut their way through, and it all came down to the
        12th and final league match,
a convincing 76 runs victory over South Africa in that match took
their tally to 14 points, just 2 points ahead of the Proteas and
that secured them a place in the final.
The stage is well and truly set - Lankans are playing good all
round cricket and hopefully it's going to be a great finale to
what has been a month of captivating cricket.
Now for the important news, Sri Lankan captain Marvan Atapattu has
won the toss and elected to BAT first.
Australia have decided to go in with the same side that beat South
Africa by 57 runs last Sunday, with McGrath absent from the
playing eleven Brett Lee will spearhead the attack which includes
Stuart Clark, Nathan Bracken and Brad Hogg.
Aleem Dar and Darrell Harper will be in charge of the proceedings
in the middle, RL Parry is the TV umpire.
Australia - Adam Gilchrist, Simon Katich, Ricky Ponting, Damien
Martyn, Andrew Symonds, Michael Clarke, Michael Hussey, Brad Hogg,
Brett Lee, Stuart Clark, Nathan Bracken.
       Supersub - James Hopes.
Sri Lanka - Marvan Atapattu, Sanath Jayasuriya, Kumar Sangakkara,
Mahela Jayawardene, Russell Arnold, Tillekeratne Dilshan, Chamara
Kapugedara, Chaminda Vaas, Nuwan Kulasekara, Muttiah Muralitharan,
        Ruchira Perera.
       SuperSub - Malinga Bandara.
Sri Lanka have made two changes to the team that played the last
match, out goes Jehan Mubarak and Dilhara Fernando, in comes
        Russell Arnold and Nuwan Kulasekara.

First Atapattu and Sangakkara played sensibly and that laid the
foundation, and then towards the end thanks to breezy knocks from
Kapugedera and Dilshan the score was catapulted to 274, which
looks a decent enough total, given the conditions.

Sri Lanka pull off an unbelievable victory over the world champions
and ironically it is another run out, the fifth of the innings
        that seals it for Lanka
275 was always going to be a hard chase, and with five run out
Australia made it easier for the Lankans.
Having said that, the Lankans played like champions - first they
batted to a plan and put up a decent score on the board, then the
bowlers came out and bowled exceptionally well,
they were backed well by some out of the world fielding and under
pressure Australia crumbled to a humiliating defeat
But all is not lost for the Aussies with this being just the first
        of the three finals.
