international between West Indies and Sri Lanka being held at
Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados
Sri Lanka started the tour as underdogs but they proved that they
are no pushovers with an emphatic 55-run win yesterday
The West Indian bowlers did their job to perfection and Sri Lanka
were all out for a modest total of 201, Romesh
Kaluwitharana(54)scored a brilliant half century and Dharmasena
(40) played a cameo towards the end
After the wins over Australia, a target of 202 would have looked
like a stroll in the park for the West Indian batsmen, but Vaas
and Nissanka had other plans
what followed was an outstanding display of fast bowling, both the
bowers used the overcast conditions to their advantage and in no
time both the openers were back in the pavilion, and by the sixth
over West Indies were 19 for 4
and from that point on there was no coming back for the West
Indians
Lara (64) played a good innings and tried his level best but he ran
out of partners and West Indies were all out for 146.
Vaas and Nissanka took two wickets each and Muralitharan got three,
Nayanakantha and Dilshan chipped in with one wicket each
With just two matches remaining in the series todays match is a
must win one for West Indies

Earlier in the day Lara won the toss and elected to bat fist
West Indian openers started off slowly and Vaas removed Wavell
Hinds in the eleventh over with just 30 runs on the board
Lara and Gayle came together and put up a 137 run partnership for
the second wicket
and that laid the platform for a decent total, Gayle was run out
when he was on 94 and he was soon followed by Sarwan who was also
run out
and then came Marlon Samules, he started off in a hurry, smashing
the bowlers all over the park and runs began to flow
Lara soon joined him and from there on it was Calypso cricket at
it's best, Lara raced away to his 17th one day international
hundred
Samuels completed a superb half century and he finished off with 56
runs from 36 balls
a total of 136 runs were scored form the last eleven overs
West Indies finished off with 312 runs in their 50 overs
Sri Lankan openers started off in style when they lost Jayasuriya
in the eleventh over the score was 71
Kaluwitharana too was soon run out, Marvan Atapattu (47),
Sangakkara (31) and Mahela Jayawardene (32) all played valuable
innings
but it was Upul Chandana (89) who played a gem of an innings and
took Sri Lanka to a memorable victory
West Indian bowlers lost their way in the final overs and Sri Lanka
helped by some wayward bowling and sloppy fielding reached the
target with three balls to spare
Chandana was named man of the match for his brilliant 89
and with this victory Sri Lanka have clinched the series and they
now lead the three match sereis 2-0
