Ball-by-Ball Commentary

Match State: Match start scheduled for 14.30 Local Time (9am GMT)

Hello and welcome to coverage of the final of the TVS Cup at
        Kolkata
It just doesn't get bigger than a repeat of the World Cup final -
India v Australia 0 and this is Anand Vasu, your commentator for
the day saying a big hello and welcome!
If you're in India, a very good afternoon to you, if you're in
Australia, a good evening to you and for our fans from every else
        welcome to our coverage!
News is just coming in that Australia have won the toss and elected
        to bat!
The wicket at Kolkata looks a good one and there's no reason
Australia should not put up a big total
There should be a run fest on the cards and the bowlers will have
their work cut out for them
There will be pressure too, as the Eden Gardens will be packed with
        vociferous fans egging India on
We're also getting news that Sourav Ganguly is unfit and will not
play. Add to this the fact that India have left out Mohammad Kaif
and Anil Kumble and once again you have a new-look team
Rahul Dravid, leads the Indian team in Ganguly's absence
India have shown positive intent, going in with five bowlers.
Ashish Nehra, Aavishkar Salvi, Ajit Agarkar, Harbhajan Singh and
Murali Kartik are the front line bowlers
It's Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden to open the batting
        Gilchrist will take first strike
It is Ajit Agarkar who has the privilege of takign the new ball and
        bowling the first over
0.1 Agarkar to Gilchrist, one run, just short of a good length and on
the pads, pulled away to deep fine leg for a single, Australia are
under way off the very first ball of the innings
0.2 Agarkar to Hayden, one run, just short of a good length and on the
stumps, worked away to the on side for a quick single and Hayden
is off the mark as well
0.3 Agarkar to Gilchrist, three runs, fullish and outside the off,
driven through cover for three runs
0.4 Agarkar to Hayden, no run, just short of a good length and outside
the off, hammered to point but no chance of a run
0.5 Agarkar to Hayden, FOUR, fullish and outside the off, Hayden drives
on the up despite not being to the pitch of the ball, Badani dives
full length at cover but cannot get a hand to it, the ball races
        off the the fence!
0.6 Agarkar to Hayden, no run, down the leg side, but close enough not
to be called a wide. It doesn't seem to matter who opens the
bowling for India, Australia always get off to a bright start!

Earlier in the commentary we said that Ashish Nehra was one of the
five bowlers in the Indian side. That is, of course a mistake, and
we apologise. The bowling line-up is Ajit agarkar, Aavishkar
Salvi, Zaheer Khan, Murali Kartik and Harbhajan Singh.
       Apologies for that error!
1.1 Khan to Gilchrist, no run, fullish and on the stumps, drive back to
        the bowler
1.2 Khan to Gilchrist, no run, fullish and outside the off, played to
        point
1.3 Khan to Gilchrist, two runs, short ball, Gilchrist goes for the
pull but does not strike it well, off the high part of the bat and
ballooning over the man at midwicket for a brace
1.4 Khan to Gilchrist, no run
1.5 Khan to Gilchrist, one run, just short of a good length and on the
stumps, chopped back towards the on side off the inside edge for a
        single
1.6 Khan to Hayden, one run, fullish and outside the off, driven hard
at, the ball goes off the outside edge and runs down to third man

2.2 Agarkar to Hayden, no run, slower ball, bowled with an off-cutter
action, the ball grips the surface and moves, Hayden is beaten all

pads, driven to the on side
2.4 Agarkar to Hayden, legbye: one run, another one just short of a
length and on the pads, played at and missed, the ball goes off
the thigh pad to fine leg and David Shepherd, the umpire, signals
        a leg bye
2.5 Agarkar to Gilchrist, no run, once again on the pads, once again
played at and missed, Agarkar begins to appeal for the lbw and
then realises the ball pitched outside leg
2.6 Agarkar to Gilchrist, no run, once more rapped on the pad, once
more a stifled appeal, end of an eventful over from Agarkar

the off, a touch of movement off the seam, Gilchrist stands tall
and plays the ball down towards cover

The crowd are going absolutely wild. You can just about hear the

        wicket they wanted

and Ponting prods and misses, Agarkar hitting a good rhythm here

drives away from the body and gets an inside edge back onto his
        pad

drives at it, the regulation edge flies straight to Laxman, the
lone slip fielder! Can you believe it? Ponting dropped on zero
That could be a big, big moment for India to regret later on! You
simply cannot drop a class act like Ponting or a duck and hope to
        get away with it
But, while you're at it, spare a thought for Laxman too. He is a
good slip fielder and everyone is going drop one sooner or later
