Ball-by-Ball Commentary

Match State: Match start scheduled for 14.30 Local Time (13.30 GMT/19.00 IST)

       Good Afternoon!
Welcome to Chester-le-Street in Durham for the fifth match in the
        NatWest triangular ODI series.
England take on India in the day/night encounter.
This is a landmark match for India, their 500th one-day
        international match.
So far India has won 230 matches, lost 248 and tied 3, there has
        been no-result 18 times.
Australia with 505 matches and Pakistan with 522 have played more
        ODIs than India.
As for England they have so far played 350 ODIs, winning 174 and
        losing 165, tied 2 and no-result 9.
This match also marks the 150th ODI appearance for Alec Stewart, he
is just 42 runs away from becoming the highest run-getter in ODIs
        for England.
Currently Graham Gooch with 4290 runs is at the top.
England and India have met 43 times in ODIs before, England hold a
        slight upper-hand with 22-20
Well, today is brand new day. England and India have eight points
each in the NatWest tri-series, with England having played one
        extra game.
India have an unbeaten record so far in this tri-series, winning
both the opening encounters - beating England by six wickets and
        Sri Lanka by four wickets.
The winner tonight will go up the points table. The third team in
the tri-series Sri Lanka, are struggling this English summer, and
are yet to win a match.
It is a bright afternoon here - one hopes that the weather stays
good through the duration of the match.
England have made two changes, out goes Matthew Hoggard and Graham
Thorpe. The replacements are Ashley Giles and Michael Vaughan.

Collingwood, A Flintoff, +AJ Stewart, RC Irani, RJ Kirtley, D

Match State: Innings Break

       SR Tendulkar 100 in 161 mins off 106 balls, 7x4 1x6
This has been a brilliant batting display by the Indians.
After having lost the wicket of Sourav Ganguly off the very first
ball of the match, and losing Sehwag (16) and Mongia (27) cheaply,
it took a 169 runs partnership between Tendulkar and Dravid to
        steady the ship.
Dravid played well to make 82 off 117 balls, striking seven
        boundaries.
Sachin Tendulkar took his time, and paced his innings well to
finish with 105 off 108 balls. Century # 32 for the little master
        in ODIs.
Yuvraj Singh came out and made the English bowling look so
ordinary, making 40 off just 19 balls.
Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh added 64 runs off just 5.3 overs and
        India finished strongly at 285/4
Interesting that India has not been bowled out in the three matches
so far. The tail-enders have not had to bat at all in this series.
Ronnie Irani (10-1-23-0) and Flintoff (10-0-36-0) bowled superbly.
We will be back shortly with England chasing 286 runs for a win.
Play will restart at 1745 Hrs GMT, 2315 Hrs IST.

Quite interesting scenes here, English batsmen want to leave 'cause

Here we go! It is raining ever so lightly, umpires offer it to the
batsmen and they walk off towards the pavilion.
The covers are on. It is not heavy rain by any means. We should
        have cricket very soon.

Match State: Delay - Rain

Players are back on. There's still a bit of drizzle here
It is going to be Ajit Agarkar to Hussain
12.1 Agarkar to Hussain, no run, quick delivery, gets behind the line
        and defends
12.2 Agarkar to Hussain, no run, defended again.
12.3 Agarkar to Hussain, no run, outside the off, through to the keeper
Umpire Orchard nottoo happy with the drizzle, the only worry must
be about the pitch getting more lively.
Here we go again. The covers are on.

Match State: Delay - Rain

The latest from Chester-le-Street, the covers are still on, there
        is a steady drizzle.
       Welcome back
We don't have any good news from Chester-le-Street
The game has been called off - India's 500th ODI ends up as a No
        Result.
We saw some good cricket while India were batting, Tendulkar and
Dravid played extremely well, and then there was a late flourish
        by Yuvraj Singh.
England got off to a good start, Trescothick made 23 off 26 balls,
before he was trapped lbw by Zaheer Khan. Knight and Hussain
struggled to keep the run rate going. England were 53/1 when the
match was called off. Rain playing the spoilsport.
England and India get two points each.
That is all we have from Chester-le-Street. The next match in the
tri-series will be played on Saturday the 6th of July at Edgbaston
        - between India and Sri Lanka
Play will start at 0945 Hrs GMT, 1515 Hrs IST, 1545 Hrs Sri Lanka
        time.
Thanks for being with us. Do join us on Saturday. Cheers!
