Ball-by-Ball Commentary

Match State: Match start scheduled for 10.45 local time (9.45 GMT/15.15 IST)

       Good Morning!
Hello and Welcome to Lord's for the final match in the NatWest tri-
        series.
England take on India in the all-important match, the winner takes
        the NatWest Trophy.
India last won a multi-team ODI series in the 1998/99 Champions
Trophy, beating Zimbabwe in the final by ten wickets on November
        13th 1998.
They have lost nine finals in a row after that. Ganguly would
really want to put an end to that sequence by winning the crucial
        final game today.
The weather is simply superb for a game of cricket. It is a sunny
        day with clear blue skies.
The new from the middle is that Nasser Hussain has won the toss and
        elected to bat.
England have made one change: Matthew Hoggard makes way for left-
        arm spinner Ashley Giles.
India are playing both the spinners, Harbhajan Singh and Anil
        Kumble. Ajit Agarkar misses out.
       The teams are as follows:
England: ME Trescothick, NV Knight, *N Hussain, RC Irani, A
Flintoff, MP Vaughan, PD Collingwood, +AJ Stewart, , AJ Tudor, D
        Gough, AF Giles.
India: *SC Ganguly, V Sehwag, D Mongia, SR Tendulkar, +R Dravid,
Yuvraj Singh, M Kaif, Z Khan, A Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, A Nehra.
The officials for this game are- Umpires: SA Bucknor and DR
Shepherd, TV Umpire: P Willey, Match Referee: MJ Procter
The track might help the seam bowlers a bit early, India have only
two of them, havign decided to play both Kumble and Harbhajan
Singh, which could well be a big gamble.
Trescothick is the key batsman for England, he is the batsman who
can play a long innings and take the game away from India.
As for India, they have a lot of bowling options, Ganguly will have
to bowl a lot today. As for the spin department, there are more
than a handful of guys who can turn the ball a bit, Apart from
Kumble and Harbhajan Singh- Yuvraj Singh, Mongia and Sehwag
also bowls handy spinners. Not to forget the versatile Tendulkar.
We are all set for the start, Umpires and players are in the middle

An amazing batting display by England in the all-important Final
        match, here at Lord's.
They finish with 325/5 in their alloted 50 overs.
Marcus Trescothick was definitely the batting hero with a wonderful
knock of 109 from just 100 balls.
Nick Knight struggled early on and was dismissed with the score on
        42. Knight (14 off 29 balls) was bowled by Zaheer Khan.
In walked Nasser Hussain and played a characteristically brave
innings - As the good old adage goes, 'Fortune favours the brave',
Hussain played some outrageous strokes, riding his luck to his
first ODI hundred. And in the meanwhile he played some superb
        shots too
Captain Courageous! Hussain played those reverse sweeps umpteen
        number of times.
He seemed to have learnt a bit from his new county mate Andy
Flower, but not enough. Hussain did not connect most of the
        reverse sweeps as well.
Flower is a master at playing the reverse sweep, and the Indian
spin bowlers would testify the same.
Hussain played some aunthentic cricket shots too, some stunning
extra cover drives and lofted strokes to the mid-wicket fence.
Hussain and Trescothick added 185 runs in 29.1 overs, and made the
Indian bowling look very ordinary indeed.
India might have made the mistake of playing the extra spinner in
Harbhajan Singh along with their first choice spinner Kumble.
The decision to leave out Agarkar, who has been in good form in
this tri-series, picking up crucial wickets, seemed to be a very
        bad decision.
If India were to go on and lose this match, the team management
will have to take a great deal blame for this decision.
Rahul Dravid looked very shaky behind the stumps, dropping a few
chances and even having their ace bowler Kumble extremely
        disappointed.
In the meanwhile, after Trescothick was yorked by Kumble - England
decided to bring out their big bazooka - Andrew Flintoff.
Flintoff did not disappoint, scoring a quick fire 40 off 32 balls,
adding 80 runs in just ten overs, with Hussain. Flintoff was
        bowled by Zaheer Khan.
Hussain's luck finally ran out, after he had made 115 runs, which
might turn out to be a match winning effort, yorked by Zaheer
        Khan.
       Sorry, Yorked by Nehra
Hussain looked a bit tired towards the end of the innings, he faced
128 balls in making 115 runs, striking ten boundaries.
England lost the wicket of Vaughan (3) looking for quick runs.
Nehra and Zaheer Khan bowled well towards the end. The 48th over
bowled by Nehra went for just five runs. 49th by Zaheer Khan
        produced only four runs.
The final over by Nehra went for just nine. And in the end, India
should be happy that England did not score more than the 325 runs.
Zaheer Khan was the pick of the bowlers, cclaiming three wickets.
The fifth bowler's responsibility was shared by Ganguly, Sehwag and
Yuvraj Singh - they went for 72 runs off the ten overs.
Well it is going to be a huge task for the Indians to make 326
runs. Ganguly will have to play a big innings, he has had a dismal
        day so far.
India will look forward to all their big guns to score heavily.
do join us in a short while for what should be a good run chase.

One caught a glimpse of Sourav Ganguly - kissing the hallowed turf
        at Lord's.
India have finally got the monkey off their back - the run of nine
losses in the final of multi-team tournaments is now history
It all started with England having put up a score of 325 off their
        50 overs.
India had a stiff target of 326 runs for a win. They started off in
fine fashion, picking up runs against Tudor, while Gough had an
        impressive first spell.
Sehwag started off slowly, while Ganguly threw all caution into the
wind, playing the inside out shots to perfection.
The first wicket pair added 106 runs off 14.3 overs, which included
a deluge of boundaries, Sehwag taking four off Irani's first over.
Hussain was back in the pavilion nursing his injured thumb and
Trescothick was literally clueless about what to do.
Hussain came back on and immediately called on Tudor to bowl the
15th over, Tudor struck with the third ball, cleaning up Ganguly
(60), who played a wild slog.
Then came a spell of doom for India, they kept losing wickets.
Irani and Giles bowled extremely well to pick up two wickets each
and India were down to 146/5
Sehwag was bowled by Giles for 45, trying to play a cute late cut.
Mongia was given out caught down the leg side off Irani for nine.
Dravid (5) came and went, falling to the short mid-wicket trap,
chipping an easy catch to Knight off Irani.
And then the big big wicket of Tendulkar for just 14, cleaned up by
Giles, the numero uno batsman of the world playing a very
        irresponsible shot.
Then the most UNBELIEVABLE of them all happened, Yuvraj Singh and
Mohd Kaif took the attack to the English camp, runs started
        flowing and the Englishmen panicked.
You will read and hear about this glorious win for sometime to
        come.
This is a story of two young men believing in themselves and not
willing to throw in the towel, when all the senior batsmen before
them had thrown away the opportunity.
The task was daunting enough, 180 runs were scored for the loss of
three wickets after Tendulkar's dismissal in just 25.3 overs
We are waiting for the presentation ceremony.
       Here we go
The umpires receive their medals, so does the ICC Match Referee
        Mike Procter
Man of the Match: Mohd Kaif
They simply couldn't give this to the big names, Tendulkar,
Ganguly... it had to be Kaif. Truly a wonderful moment in the
        sport
Kaif: It was an easy track to bat on. It is not easy to chase a
target of 326. I have been playing together with Yuvraj Singh,
        almost six years.
I knew if I could stay till the end, we could win.
Man of the Series: Marcus Trescothick
       Trescothick looks very disappointed.
Ronnie Irani picks up the award of - Fans' Player of the tournament
The losing finalists, the English team picks up a medallion. Every
        player is awarded with one.
       Nasser Hussain congratulates the Indians
There is no embarassment in losing today, says Hussain.
He thinks it is a hard thing to swallow. After having missed out in
the final game, even after making 325 runs
Now it is the turn of the Indian team to pick up their individual
        medallions.
Now it is Ganguly's turn to address: It is a fantastic win, we did
not bowl well, batted like champions.
The way Kaif and Yuvraj Singh batted was unbelievable.
It is fantastic to see so many Indians turn up at Lord's. It was a
        marvellous team effort.
Ganguly and the rest of the team basks in glory - NatWest Trophy is
        theirs.
