West Indies win by seven wickets
Hooper did the right thing this morning. Got it right at the toss -
and then elected to chase.
India made 279/9 in their 47 overs. Play started 30 mins late - due
to wet outfield, game was reduced to 48 overs. There was some
crowd trouble, which took off one more over.
Ganguly (78), Laxman (99) and Dravid (51) batted well
But the Indian tactics defied logic - Agarkar this time failed at
#3 as a pinch hitter. Then Harbhajan Singh was sent in at #5, a
shocking move really - given India has big guns like Yuvraj Singh
and Kaif.
Vasbert Drakes bowled well to pick three wickets.
The Indian bowling was not really up to the mark today - not good
enough to defend a total of 279
They bowled on either sides of the wicket, especially Harbhajan
Singh and Anil Kumble
A lot, a lot of deliveries were bowled down the leg side, making it
easy for the West Indies batsmen.
Chris Gayle hit a brilliant hundred, 103 off 116 balls, hitting
eight boundaries and three sixes. One of those big sixes off
Kumble - cleared the stadium.
Hinds was the only one who missed out - making 27 off 28 balls
Samuels yet again proved what a class act he is, a stylish batsman
- with silken touch
There is a certain laziness in his stroke play, here is one man who
is going to entertain for a long time to come
wonder why they didn't play Samuels inthe first two Tests. Today he
scored yet another fifty (52) and threw it away.
Sarwan and Chanderpaul took West Indies to a comfortable victory -
they really made this Indian bowling look very ordinary
if India continue to experiment - the series will have gone too far
away from their grasp
They ought to find a way to get Yuvraj Singh and Mohd Kaif - more
time in the middle.
Dravid was not supposed to play in this game - he looked very
jaded, and probably needs some rest - before India head for New
Zealand
Harbhajan Singh has not at all looked menacing in this ODI series,
even Kumble is being hit around.
Anyways, a convincing victory for West Indies - they win by seven
wickets and go 2-0 in the series.
Given the fact that West Indies got off to a miserable start to
this tour - losing the first Two Tests, credit should be given to
them.
Man of the Match is to be announced, it has to be Chris Gayle.
Ganguly: They looked desperate for a win - and they won.
it is important to pick wickets to win one-day games
We still have five games left, we will have to play much better
than this.
Ganguly making no excuses here.
Hooper: It was important for us to carry on, and that too in an
emphatic manner
Carry on winning that is.
Hooper thinks that his team is beginning to peak at the right time.
And also gives credit to the batsmen.
Man of the Match: Chris Gayle
