the previous game must help their morale no end as they stride
onto the field at Premadasa.
At the toss, Nasser Hussain called correctly and opted to bat
first, noting that the pitch looked a belter to bat on. Heath

Knight virtually swats it away from his presence through covers,
the ball racing away to the fence for the first boundary of the
match.

Knight straight-bats it straight over the bowler's head, the bat
in wonderful position to send the ball bouncing once and then
crashing into the ad boards at long-on.
3.5 Hondo to Trescothick, FOUR, fractionally short outside the off, and
Trescothick cuts it this time in front of point for his third
four, timing it beautifully.

Trescothick's attempted pull off the fornt foot gets a top edge.
The ball balloons into the air and falls safely in the midwicket
region, just making it to the fence ahead of the chasing Hondo.

Match State: Innings Break
And that brings England to the highest score of this tournament
thus far - 298/8 - beating out Australia's score agaihst New
Zealand a few days ago.
The score rode largely on Marcus Trescothick's wonderful century, a
paradigm of a good one-day knock - fast at the beginning and
sensibly steady after that.
Nasser Hussain accompanied him in a steady partnership to score 75,
but the lower-order effort went slightly to pieces, and an over-
300 total was kept down to 298.
For Zimbabwe, Douglas Hondo took his second four-wicket haul in two
matches, but credit for keeping the score down must go to Grant
Flower and Pommie Mbangwa, who bowled tight line and length to tie
the batsmen down in the middle overs.
Zimbabwe will now have to chase 299 off 48 overs due to their slow
over rate, and it remains to be seen whether Andy Flower can whip
up another Flower special this time around.
Join us after the dinner break in 40 minutes to find out.

And that ends that. Zimbabwe, chasing a mammoth 299 for victory,
lose by 108 runs to England, making the third fixture of this pool
a real humdinger.
The win of course was set up by Marcus Trescothick's great century
and Hussain's stolid fifty in England's innings.
Zimbabwe had a remote chance of winning once Hoggard broke through
teh top order. Hoggard returned wonderful figures of 3-25, moving
the ball prodigiously on a fairly dead track.
Ronnie Irani took four middle order wickets and broke the back of
the Zimbabwe innings, and despite a consolation fifty for Heath
Streak towards the end, the innings meandered to 190/9 in the 48
overs.
This win for England now means that Sunday's match assumes immense
importance, with the winner of that fixture entering the semi-
finals of this tournament.
In case of rain - and we sincerely hope that doesn't happen -
England will make it in ahead of India on net run rate.
There is really only one candidate for the Man of the Match award -
Marcus Trescothick - although Matthew Hoggard and Ronnie Irani
will be other names in the adjudicator's mind.
As expected, Tresocthick was named man of the match for his 119 at
the top of the English order.
Join us at CricInfo tomorrow as Australia take on Bangladesh. Till
then, goodbye.
