Match State: Match start scheduled for 0830 GMT (14:30 local)
ICC Champions Trophy, Final Act, Take Two. Welcome to the India-Sri
Lanka title clash yet again, after yesterday's rain forced the
match to be replayed from scratch today.
And deja-vu is not evident only in commentaries and previews. At
the toss, Sanath Jayasuriya yet again won the toss - albeit as the
caller this time - and yet again had little hesitation in choosing
to bat.
The pitch, however, prompted changes in both teams. The tracks at
the Premadasa stadium, unsurprisingly enough, have grown slower as
this tournament progressed, aiding spin more and more.
India and Sri Lanka are both playing the extra spinner. While Anil
Kumble comes in for expensive team-mate Javagal Srinath, leg-
spinner Upul Chandana replaces opening bowler Pulasthi Gunaratne.
There is every chance that this final become a low-scoring game,
both teams full to the brim with spin that will be sure to find
purchase on the wearing track.
Rain too may not have had its final say in this tournament. The
probability of showers today remains at a high 60 percent, and if
this final too is rained out, Sri Lanka and India will find
themselves joint holders of this Champions Trophy.
And as the Sri Lankan openers stride out into the final situation
for the second time, let's join the action out in the middle.
Kumara Sanggakara, in a change of tactic, is the opener at the
other end, while Sanath Jayasuriya as usual takes guard.
0.1 Khan to Jayasuriya, OUT: seam right up, pitching just outside off
and just short of a length, and Jayasuriya tries the shot to off.
He only plays the ball onto his boot and then onto the stumps, and
this is a magnificent start for India!!

0.2 Khan to Atapattu, no run, outside the off, angled away from the
right-hander, and Atapattu is drawn forward into the stroke, the
ball flying past the outside edge.
0.3 Khan to Atapattu, no run, again seaming away from Atapattu, and the
batsman is struck on the pads half-forward. The appeal goes up for
leg-before, and Ganguly continues it even after the ball is dead!
0.4 Khan to Atapattu, no run, pitching outside the leg this time and
striking outside leg too, but the appeal is no less loud. Ganguly
was already warned last delivery for an exaggerated appeal.
0.5 Khan to Atapattu, one run, drifting down leg, and Atapattu wristily
flicks it away fine, getting a single to the fine leg fielder.
0.6 Khan to Sangakkara, one run, short of a lenght, and Sangakkara

second slip, where Dinesh Mongia grasses the catch as well as the
run-out attempt.

Z Khan 9-1-44-3 (1w 1nb) - Khetterama End
RP Arnold 56* (101b 3x4) HDPK Dharmasena 0* (0b)
222 is less than the Sri Lankans got yesterday, but considering
that they lost Jayasuriya first balla nd were dire straits in 16
overs at 71 for four, they will look upon it as a solid recovery.
The architects of the recovery were Jayawardene and Arnold, two
batsmen in the middle order who everyboyd thought did not have
enough batting in the tournament and so might crumble.
Instead Arnold made an unbeaten 56, while Jayawardene played
himself into form with 77 off 99 balls, falling just when the slog
was starting.
Match State: Innings Break
For India, Zaheer Khan picked three wickets for 44, and Harbhajan
Singh was well supported by the part-time spinners to cut down the
runs in the middle order.
But 222 will still be challenging for India, the pitch slow and
turning and Sri Lanka's armoury packed with spinners.
How India will chase we will have to wait and watch, so join us in
40 minutes for the concluding innings of this Champions Trophy.
Welcome back to the Premadasa, where the clouds are gathering in
the east.

Match State: Delay - Rain
it is still raining out here, we will take a short break and will
be back with you with more updates
Still raining here folks, but it looks more promising than
yesterday, so play could start. Keep with us as we follow the
updates.
Still raining here at the Premadasa, and the update is that play
must start by 9:17 local time.
Still raining at the Premadasa stadium, and if India are not able
to get into the middle beofre 20:45 IST or 15:17 GMT, this ICC
Champions Trophy will be shared between India and Sri Lanka.
India will need to bat another 16.2 overs for the Duckworth Lewis
system to take effect.
That looks remote as of now, but stay tuned for further updates.
A decision has finally been made at the Premadasa stadium, with
sheets of rain still coming down.
Viewing the possibility of getting play started again dimly, the
umpires have called off play for the day.
That makes both Sri Lanka and India the joint winners of this
edition of the ICC Champions Trophy.
With the final being rained out twice in a row, and rain not
interrupting any other game, it seems perhaps fated to be.
Some would argue that India had the better of both days of play,
and even Sri Lanka might concur with that on some levels.
India bowled well on both days to restrict Sri Lanka to under 250,
no mean feat with a mighty batting line-up in home conditions.
But India and Sri Lanka have looked the best teams in this
tournament, playing good, entertaining cricket that has drawn the
attention of spectator and pundit alike.
India have come off a great English tour, winning the oen-day
series emphatically and drawing the Tests, and their performance
in this tournament has been a good pointer to the success of their
youth policy.
Apart from Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif and Zaheer Khan, it was
perhaps Virender Sehwag who really caught the imagination of all
concerned, and he is a strong contender for the Man of the Series
award.
Sri Lanka had their own exemplary performers, with Jayasuriya at
the top of the order indulging in his usual fireworks.
All in all, a fascinating fortnight of cricket that serves as a
good appetiser of the World Cup to come early next year. And from
CricInfo's coverage team, thank you and see you all soon.
