Good day all, post World Cup 2003 international cricket kicks-off
with the Cherry Blossom Cup in Sharjah featuring Pakistan, Kenya,
Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe
This tourney begins today with each team playing each other once
and this afternoon starting and 11:00GMT its between Pakistan and
Zimbabwe day/nighter in a sultry Sharjah Stadium with the final on
Apr 10th.
I guees there is no need to remind anyone about what happened to
these teams in the World Cup but our polls do show Kenya as
tournament favourites while the other three teams in a rebuild
mode and looking to find form and train the new players.
Pakistan have brought in lots of lesser known players in an effort
to groom them to replace the senios who did not do well in the
WCup while Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe have made up for several
retirements.

Sharjah as a cricket venue has grown year by year and last year
also hosted a Test series between Australia and Pakistan and this
Cup is a regular event.
The organisers invited Kenya and Zimbabwe to play a quadrangular
after South Africa withdrew for security concerns. Normally this
annual April event would be a tri-nation between Pak, RSA and SL.
Todays umpires are AV Jayaprakash and B Doctrove with KC Barbour
watching the TV while Justice Ahmed Ebrahim will be refereeing.
Weather, least said the better!, hot upper 80's in the afternoon
and upper 60's in the evening and over the next 7 days getting
hotter with of course the sun playing the lead role.
Pakistan's (new but second time) skipper Rashid Latif and Heat
Streak for Zimbabwe will be tossing up.

In this match we saw a good recovery when Pakistan batted after
being 106 for 5 with Younis Khan, Rashid Latif and the a brilliant
innings by Razzaq to get their side to 278
Zimbabwe lost wicket all along and Marillier was in form with a 59
and things did look tight when Blignaut and Ervine were out there.
The young team fielded well for Pakistan and the younger legs
showed out well, Hafeez, Umar Gul and Kaneria were in fine fettle
with Sami being the attack bowler as well as Kaneria who did pose
problems with his googly
