Canterbury fall one run short of cracking the 200 mark, but they'll
be pretty darn happy with that effort after struggling to 83/5,
and being 129/5 after 40 overs - picking up 70 runs from the last
        10 overs
other than Harris, with support from Fulton, who grew in confidence
as his innings progressed, and a cameo from Hopkins, the batting
        was not all that flash
even second highest scorer Astle didn't look his characteristic
self, taking a sluggish 68 balls to get 32, partly through lack of
strike as wickets fell at the other end, then being tied down by
the steady medium pacers of Canning and Barnes
the Auckland bowling effort was largely a very good one, with
Mills, Canning and Barnes the pick, Adams having his moments early
on before copping some stick at the death, while the fifth bowler
duties, shared by Horne, Walker and Pryor, was a little
costly, going for 59 runs from the 10 overs between them
this pitch is being used for the third game in a row here, and is a
bit on the slouchy side, though is pretty true, and a target of
200 at a required run rate of exactly 4 per over may present a bit
        of a challenge
Auckland have the advantage of batting right down to No 11, though
Canterbury's bowling line-up is pretty strong itself, boasting
        three current or former internationals

39.1 McMillan to Horne, OUT: oh dear, Horne tries to get too cute and
pays the price, McMillan digs in a short rising ball outside off

it out to Harris running back at deepish backward point

        near 'sure thing' century
       Rob Nicol the new batsman
39.2 McMillan to Vincent, wide: no run, digs in a bouncer first up, but
it's too short, far too short, and signalled wide, as it goes
through to keeper Hopkins down the leg side
39.2 McMillan to Vincent, (noball) no run, and another one! this is
quicker, but not quite as short, Vincent ducks underneath it,
through to the keeper, signalled no-ball this time, as he's only
        allowed one in the over
39.2 McMillan to Vincent, OUT: oh dear oh dear, Vincent gets out short
of victory too! low full toss, smacks it straight back to the
        bowler on his follow through

        through to the keeper

it means Auckland will host the State Shield final, to be held at
North Harbour Stadium in Albany, on February 1, and will meet the
winner of the Wellington v Northern Districts semi-final to be
played at the Basin Reserve in Wellington on January 29
a fine knock by Horne set up the successful chase, making it very
comfortable, shutting Canterbury out of the match completely
Howell chipped in useful knock at the top of the order, before
Vincent polished things off (almost) with a breezy 42, dominating
a 55-run stand with Horne, who sadly just missed his ton
not a lot to write home about the Canterbury bowlers, rarely were
they ever threatening at any stage of proceedings, nor containing
enough to exert sufficient pressure on the Auckland top order
it means their domestic one-day season has come to an end, and will
have to refocus on the four-day State Championship competition,
which is also very evenly poised competition at present
that concludes out coverage from Jade Stadium today, we hope you
enjoyed, please join us on Wednesday the 29th for live coverage of
the State Shield semi-final from Wellington, starting at 12pm
        local time (2300 GMT)
until then, it's goodbye from CricInfo in chilly Christchurch!
