Welcome to the Basin Reserve for the first test of the National
Bank Series between the TelstraClear Black Caps.
There are two types of cricketers that have played at the Basin,
those that have just played here and those that have played here
whilst enduring the ferocious Wellington wind.
These qualified Indian cricketers can now add this to many of their
already illustrious CVs.
Much has been made of this green top Basin pitch and this morning
there is still a layer of grass on top measured at about five
millimeters.
Looking at the pitch, some of the experts are now predicting better
batting conditions after the first session.
All is likely to be revealed in a matter of hours as we get under
way over the next couple of hours.

unfortunately there has been a fair dumping of rain overnight and
this morning, and while is lovely and sunny right now, the
outfield is sodden and there is unlikely to be any play until well
into the afternoon, at least lunch, if not closer to tea time
the Basin is notorious for troublesome mop-ups after rain, but
thankfully the facilities have been upgraded this year - drainage
and covers in particular - so it shouldn't be as bad as it
could've been, though they have yet to lift the main pitch covers
to discover the 'damage' just yet
extremely strong winds are expected to kick up later in the day,
which will greatly help the drying out process for the outfield

Update 12:10pm local time - Still no word on a start time, but the
sky has cleared and the ground is currently bathed in glorius
sunshine, the covers are nearly off.
The gates are now open and a crowd is slowly trickling in, it looks

the umpires will be inspecting the ground at 12:45pm local time.

have taken the ground to warm up, this has to be a positive sign.

after lunch, what is of concern is a damp patch on the bowler's
run up at the southern end of the ground.
