Match State: Stumps - Day 1

Good Morning cricket fans and welcome to ECB.co.uk and CricInfo's
live commentary of the first npower test match between Pakistan
        and England,
which is about to get underway at Lord's, the headquarters of
        cricket.
Unfortunately the weather has not allowed for a timely start, in
fact we are a whole day late
Stiff, drying breeze, no surface moisture - outfield has some
greasiness though, and on pressing dampness can be felt clearly
        - the ball would certainly become wet very quickly. The ground was
not fully ready for play as at 7:30am, but,
should furthur precepitation be avoided before 11am (local time),
play may well be possible from the start.
ECB.co.uk and CricInfo are also broadcasting Audio commentary on
the Internet and also for listners of Radio Pakistan
Please visit www.cricinfo.com for the audio internet commentary
details and those in Pakistan only need to switch on their radios
The two sides go into this eagerly awaited first test. Pakistan
looking to avenge their winter loss while England looking to
continue on from their success in Pakistan.
Despite reported injuries to players like Shoaib Akhtar and
Mohammad Sami, Pakistan boast of enough firepower in its line-up
        to down England.
While Saeed Anwar, Inzamam-ul-Haq, and Yousuf Youhana will be
leading their batting, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Abdur Razzaq and
Saqlain Mushtaq are there to pump up the bowling.
England, on the other hand, are brimming with confidence having won
four test series in row, including their unexpected win over
        Pakistan last winter.
So the Pakistan speedsters boast may or may not happen, we will
        have to wait and see.
They, therefore, have relied on the very combination, which earned
them laurels in the past months. Their only injury worry is Craig
White, who is out with a back spasm.
The wicket at Lord's has traditionally helped seamers especially in
the early part of the season.
The ball is expected to swing and bounce and it won't be surprising
at all to see the winner of the toss electing to bowl first.
So hold your breath and wait for this thrilling and breathtaking
encounter to kick off. Keep in touch with CricInfo and enjoy your
fill of world wide live cricket coverage!

There were a few play and misses and an odd edge to a vacant slip

A seesaw battle today, honours for first session to England, second
session leaned to Pakistan and a great partnership between Thorpe
and Nasser Hussain saw England home with a good total for a first
        day's play
Azhar mahmood picked up two wickets but a fine 84 by Thorpe took
        away the slight advantage
Earlier we saw the batsmen settle but get out in the 30's
Fine cricket all round, a bit dull at times but the advantage is
        with England

Match State: Day 2 - Stumps

Good morning from ecb.co.uk and CricInfo for live commentary of
play on Day 2 of the Lord's npower test between England and
        Pakistan
We have England in a good position at 254 for 4 and looking for
lots more runs today and then trying to bowl Pakistan out twice in
        the remaining 2 days
Pakistan will try to get quick wickets after yesterdays relatively
insipid performance from their all pace attack, with none of their
        bowlers able to grab wickets
The weather is fine and the Lord's ground pretty much full, all set
        for the battle to resume
Pitch is fine with some grass sprouting and looks a bit of a bother
        for Pakistan later

Full marks to England for a demolition job on Pakistan, inside 3
days, Caddick the chief wrecker with good support from Gough and
        Cork
Pakistan batting was totally inadequate under the conditions at
Lord's, they lost the vast majority of wickets behind the stumps,
        15 out of 20
This clearly shows lack of technique to play the swinging and
        seaming ball
The decision not to play a spinner may not have mattered with the
fragile batting, but would have been useful
Englands catching was spectacular and equally matched the bowling
The next test will be at Old Trafford on 31 May and please do join
