Top of the afternoon to one and all and welcome to our live
coverage from Newlands for this the final clash
in the limit overs series between South Africa and Australia
Thus far Australia have dominated the series thanks in no small
part to some "interesting" team selections for South Africa
Play was scheduled to start at 12:30 GMT but overnight and today we
have had rain here in Cape Town
and the covers are still on the wicket
There is a steady stream of spectators entering the ground and word
is that the match has been sold out
which will just add to the atmosphere that is already building here
Umbrellas are up as a shield against the slight drizzle that
continues to come down
It is still very overcast alongside the mountain so all we can do
is wait for a decision to be made
We will update you as and when we get any news
Match State: Delay - Rain
The drizzle continues to come down at Newlands in Cape Town
In order for a game to be made here we would need the first ball to
be bowled
at around 17:45 GMT and it would then be 25 overs a side
No official word as yet so we continue to watch the falling water
and we promise to update you as soon as anything comes to us
The rain has abated somewhat and although the pitch still has light
covers on
the players are out on the field warming up
We have received an announcement from the Umpires that should the
rain stay away
play will commence at 14:10 GMT and the match will be played as 45
overs per side
Prospects look good although the mountain is still shrouded in mist
and there is still
a substantial abount of cloud around
The teams have not yet been announced and we will bring you details
as soon as we receive them
Australia have won the toss and elected to field
Australia have rotated their team for this match and Hayden,
Lehmann and Gillespie will sit out
In comes Bichel, Maher and Lee while Hauritz has been named 12th
man
For South Africa Kent and Ntini will sit out while Hayward and
Dippenaar will play
The match will commence at 14:25 and it will be played over 43
overs
With the reduced overs it will mean that (should only 5 bowlers be
used)
3 players would be allowed to bowl 9 and 2 players bowl 8 overs
The fielding restrictions will now only apply to the first 12 overs
McGrath will open from the Wynberg end and Smith will take first
strike

Umps chatting and calling them off as the rain is too steady to
continue and the sun tries to poke thru the cloud in attempt to
change their minds
Match State: Delay - Rain
After 19 minutes of play and under the wisdom of the Umpires play
has been suspended
The wicket has been covered and the rest of the covers are being
brought on
The esteemed Duckworth and Lewis will now be the main contributers
to this match
A steady stream of droplets are falling from the heavens and a
glance at the flags
gives one the impression that it is here to stay for a while yet
As soon as we hear of any propect of play we will let you know
It has just gone 15:05 here at Newlands and the rain cannot decide
what to do
The sun is making somewhat of an apperance and the groundstaff are
in a bit of a quandry as to what to do as the drizzle stops for a
couple of minutes then returns
For the moment the main covers have been removed but the wicket
remains firmly closed
With 20 minutes now having been lost we can say for certainty that
this match will be played over less than 40 overs per side
15:20 GMT - The wicket is now being uncovered as the rain looks to
have gone for the moment and we await the umpires
We can see a little bit of blue sky above and the match has been
reduced to 39 overs per side
with 4 bowlers allowed to bowl 8 overs and the fielding restriction
now down to 11 overs
The umpires have returned to raptous applause and are being
followed by the players

of him coming off the 3rd man fence

Pollock is cheered as he is called forward
It was great to win the last match
Congratulations to Australia, were better thru the series and
deserved to win it
Australia the best side currently in world and cricket and SA need
to go and work hard and have something to aspire to
Ask the fans to stick by them and hopefully they can win the one
that counts and take the World Cup on home turf
Nicky Boje is called forward to receive his Man of the Match award,
a cheque
and a bowling award for his 5 wickets
Enjoyed the spell, wicket helped a touch, skidding on
Boys played well, banded together nice way to end the season after
some early injuries
Looking forward to some cricket in the English summer
Ricky Ponting called forward as Man of the Series
Led his side well and was always there for his team with the bat as
well
Very proud of the way the guys performed throughout the tour and
couldn't be happier
Would have loved to win this one as well but it's a bit tough, long
series, looking forward to going home
Key to the win was the hunger to show they are the best side in the
world
Playing here was good preparation for the World Cup knowing
something of the conditions
Crowds have been fanatastic, bit of a ribbing now and again but
nothing less than expected and was wonderful playing in front of
them
Ponting receives the cheque and the trophy for winning the series
and they get together to pose for the media
