Match State: Match scheduled to start at 2pm local time (0100 GMT)
welcome to WestpacTrust Stadium in Wellington for the third
National Bank Series One-Day International between New Zealand and
Pakistan
it's a fair day outside, with a strong northerly blowing through on
an otherwise blue sky with light puffy clouds, no threat of
interruption looming in the next few hours
a small crowd has so far filtered in to the ground, not bucking the
trend from all the other matches in New Zealand this year, most
turning up as or after the first ball is bowled, and today being a
weekday for a day/nighter, there should be many more
later in the evening, with encouraging pre-sales suggesting it
could be a good atmosphere this evening
the pitch looks a fair one, having recovered from an international
rugby sevens tournament here a fortnight ago, and an Aussie Rules
warm-up match last weekends a rare bit of sheen on the wicket
which isn't often seen on New Zealand pitches in this day a
New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming has again won the toss, and
elected to bowl first, not wanting to mess with a winning formula
after a fine success at Napier
there are three changes in the Pakistan side for the match, with
Azhar Mahmood to make his 100th One-Day International appearance,
replacing the rested Shoaib Akhtar who passed a fitness test this
morning on his strained left quadricep
there's a change in the opening, with young Imran replacing an even
younger Imran - Nazir for Farhat that is, after an unsuccessful
first couple of games at international level, while Shahid Afridi
is made 12th man in favour of Saleem Elahi
New Zealand go into this match with an unchanged side, the injured
Jacob Oram having dropped away from the squad altogether and gone
back to Palmerston North, while newcomer Andre Adams doesn't get
his chance today, acting as drinks carrier
out on to the field come the umpires and players, it'll be Saeed
Anwar to take first strike to the bowling of Daryl Tuffey from the
City End, with Imran Nazir at the non-striker's end
two slips, third man, backward point, cover, mid off, mid on,
square leg and long leg in place for the left-handed Saeed facing
the right arm over the wicket Tuffey
0.1 Tuffey to Saeed Anwar, legbye: one run, shortish ball angling down
the leg side, worked away off the thigh pad to vacant short fine
leg, Pakistan underway immediately, Saeed avoids the hat-trick of
first ball dismissals in this series

side, turned away down to Martin fielding down there to get off
the mark straight away

77 needed from the final 10 overs, just 3 wickets in hand, the odds
are stacked heavily in Pakistan's favour
40.1 Waqar Younis to Parore, no run, quick shortish ball outside off
stump, feathers the bat at it but fails to get anything on it as
it passes through to Moin
40.2 Waqar Younis to Parore, one run, shortish straight ball, tucked
down off the hip to backward square leg, an easy single on offer,
possibly even a very tight two had they run the first hard as
Afridi raced in from the boundary to field, but they weren't
looking for it
40.3 Waqar Younis to Franklin, two runs, full outside off stump, deftly
opens the face late, running it fine wide of the keeper, Saqlain
slides around from a more conventional third man position to save
inside the boundary
40.4 Waqar Younis to Franklin, legbye: one run, angling down the leg
side, turned away from the pad to short fine leg, easy run on
offer as Azhar fields from long leg
40.5 Waqar Younis to Parore, one run, shortish ball outside off stump,
nudged down from a height to cover point, easy run with teh shot

swish and miss trying to run it away through backward point

drive down the ground but it's a bit straight on him, played into
the pitrch, straight back to the bowler

off stump, Franklin has a lazy waft at it, missing through to the
keeper for the free run
41.3 Azhar Mahmood to Franklin, one run, this time he manages to feather
a similar ball fine, wide of the keeper down the off side, but
doesn't get any more than a single for it as Saleem's quickly
around to return it from third man
41.4 Azhar Mahmood to Parore, two runs, full on the toes, clipped along
the ground out through midwicket, easy two taken as Afridi's

ask from these two and what little there is to come
Azhar and Waqar both finish their 10 over allotments, leaving way
for Wasim and Saqlain to finish out 4 overs apiece at the end
Wasim gets first go, bowling from the Scoreboard End

Saqlain returns, replacing Azhar at the City End to bowl his final
4 overs
43.1 Saqlain Mushtaq to Parore, no run, flighted up full, Parore comes
forward to turn it into a low full toss, mistimes it off the base
of the bat to Imran Farhat at wide midwicket
43.2 Saqlain Mushtaq to Parore, no run, full outside off stump, squeezed
straight up to Wasim at extra cover
43.3 Saqlain Mushtaq to Parore, legbye: one run, flighted up full,
turning into the pads, drawing a large appeal for lbw from Saqlain
and keeper but turned down by umpire Dunne, rebounds away to short
third man for a quick run, struck outside the line
43.4 Saqlain Mushtaq to Franklin, OUT: swing and a miss, plays all
around it, and the stumps are rattled, Franklin is slightly
confused for a moment, wondering whether it was Moin who disturbed
the bails, but then walks off after realising it was a fine
wrong'un from the off that

for victory from 38 balls
43.5 Saqlain Mushtaq to Tuffey, no run, flighted up straight, Tuffey
tries to sweep but is through the shot far too soon, taken on the
pad and drops harmlessly away in close on the off side
43.6 Saqlain Mushtaq to Tuffey, legbye: one run, drives and misses
outside off stump, turns into the front pad, striking outside the
line, deflecting down to short third man, quick single taken,

partner for the new over

44.1 Wasim Akram to Tuffey, no run, plays and misses outside off stump,
done by a change of pace, Wasim too sophisticated for the tail-
ender
44.2 Wasim Akram to Tuffey, two runs, but Tuffey gets a bit back,
jamming one down from his toes, squeezing it away through wide
midwicket, with no power on the shot they can grab two with long
on placed rather deep
Wasim gives Tuffey a few verbals, a bit of batting advice from an
old pro, no doubt
44.3 Wasim Akram to Tuffey, no run, full on off stump, defends straight
down to Saeed in the covers
44.4 Wasim Akram to Tuffey, no run, excellent yorker length ball, dug
out from the toes, up to Afridi at wide midwicket

straight up to Saeed at extra cover, Pakistan smartly keep Tuffey
on strike

ball that straightens, trying to drag it from outside off stump to
the leg side, brushes the pad and goes through the keeper, to
short third man
45.2 Saqlain Mushtaq to Parore, one run, flighted up on leg stump, swept
down to deep backward square leg
45.3 Saqlain Mushtaq to Tuffey, no run, there's the wrong'un, short ball
outside off stump, turns away and confuses the heck out of Tuffey
who can't find a shot for that one at all
45.4 Saqlain Mushtaq to Tuffey, no run, flighted up full, straight and
quicker, Tuffey comes well forward out of his crease, trying to
whip it away butu is taken low down on the pad, rebounding back to
the bowler
45.5 Saqlain Mushtaq to Tuffey, bye: one run, charges down the pitch,
having a big swing and a miss, beaten by the wrong'un again, but
Moin can't take it cleanly, rebounding out of his gloves towards
point, missing an easy stumping chance
45.6 Saqlain Mushtaq to Parore, one run, shortish ball, turned away
backward of square leg, finally Parore manages to retain the
strike for himself

away through the covers, time for a couple as Inzamam is around
from deep cover point to field
46.2 Wasim Akram to Parore, two runs, full and straight, strongly driven
into the pitch back down the ground, beats the dive from mid on,
and they scamper back for a second as long on's in to fire it back
to the keeper's end
46.3 Wasim Akram to Parore, one run, shortish straight ball, dropped
down quietly to vacant square leg for an easy single
New Zealand's 200 is belatedly brought up to a smattering of
applause, but they're falling well short of the required target
here unless some magical big hitting comes out of the woodwork
46.4 Wasim Akram to Tuffey, no run, dabbles and misses a ball outside
off stump, straight through to Moin
46.5 Wasim Akram to Tuffey, one run, props forward in defence, tapping
it down in close on the leg side, they sneak through for a well
run quick single, Wasim charges up, turns and has a shy at the
bowler's end, missing as Tuffey's well home
46.6 Wasim Akram to Parore, SIX, full and straight, Parore swings
through one nicely, sending it sailing hard and high well over
midwicket, landing a good 10 rows back into the crowd, who spark
