Ball-by-Ball Commentary

Match State: Match scheduled to start at 2pm local time (0100 GMT)

welcome to WestpacTrust Stadium in Wellington for the third
National Bank Series One-Day International between New Zealand and
        Pakistan
it's a fair day outside, with a strong northerly blowing through on
an otherwise blue sky with light puffy clouds, no threat of
interruption looming in the next few hours
a small crowd has so far filtered in to the ground, not bucking the
trend from all the other matches in New Zealand this year, most
turning up as or after the first ball is bowled, and today being a
weekday for a day/nighter, there should be many more
later in the evening, with encouraging pre-sales suggesting it
could be a good atmosphere this evening
the pitch looks a fair one, having recovered from an international
rugby sevens tournament here a fortnight ago, and an Aussie Rules
warm-up match last weekends a rare bit of sheen on the wicket
which isn't often seen on New Zealand pitches in this day a
New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming has again won the toss, and
elected to bowl first, not wanting to mess with a winning formula
after a fine success at Napier
there are three changes in the Pakistan side for the match, with
Azhar Mahmood to make his 100th One-Day International appearance,
replacing the rested Shoaib Akhtar who passed a fitness test this
morning on his strained left quadricep
there's a change in the opening, with young Imran replacing an even
younger Imran - Nazir for Farhat that is, after an unsuccessful
first couple of games at international level, while Shahid Afridi
is made 12th man in favour of Saleem Elahi
New Zealand go into this match with an unchanged side, the injured
Jacob Oram having dropped away from the squad altogether and gone
back to Palmerston North, while newcomer Andre Adams doesn't get
his chance today, acting as drinks carrier
out on to the field come the umpires and players, it'll be Saeed
Anwar to take first strike to the bowling of Daryl Tuffey from the
City End, with Imran Nazir at the non-striker's end
two slips, third man, backward point, cover, mid off, mid on,
square leg and long leg in place for the left-handed Saeed facing
the right arm over the wicket Tuffey
0.1 Tuffey to Saeed Anwar, legbye: one run, shortish ball angling down
the leg side, worked away off the thigh pad to vacant short fine
leg, Pakistan underway immediately, Saeed avoids the hat-trick of
first ball dismissals in this series
0.2 Tuffey to Imran Nazir, one run, slower ball angling down the leg
side, turned away down to Martin fielding down there to get off
        the mark straight away
0.3 Tuffey to Saeed Anwar, no run, beaten! reaching forward at a better
ball angling across the left hander, followed it quiet a way from
his body, through to Parore low down
0.4 Tuffey to Saeed Anwar, no run, full and straight, driven firmly
along the ground straight up to Franklin at wide mid on
0.5 Tuffey to Saeed Anwar, no run, shortish ball on off stump, stands
tall in defending it quietly down into the off side, Vettori in
from the covers to tidy up
0.6 Tuffey to Saeed Anwar, no run, shortish ball on off stump, shuffles
back and across, defending straight down to Vettori in the covers

        Tuffey at third man

off stump up towards wide mid on, well worked for an easy quick

length ball on off stump, misplaying it straight back down the

stroked away towards point, Harris across from backward of square

strongly driven straight through vacant extra cover, it's an

        off
2.4 Tuffey to Saeed Anwar, two runs, shortish straight ball just
drifting into the body, well tucked down through backward square

        from mid off

crease looking for the drive, ends up pushing it straight down to
        Twose at mid off

awkwardly hovers back in the crease, dropping it down with a dead
bat on the leg side of the pitch
3.6 Martin to Saeed Anwar, two runs, dear oh dear, Saeed strongly
straight drives on the leg side, powerful shot and they amble to
the other end of the wicket watching it go away, but it
dramatically slows up in the outfield, stopping well inside the
rope so they have to start running

mid off to the shortish extra cover boundary

launches into a powerful hit over the top, well clearing wide

McMillan in the deep, to the extra cover boundary, great stuff
