Well New Zealand would have to be satisfied with their start this
morning, despite the last two wickets coming from an unexpected
source, Fleming playing the spinners after only 10 overs
langer especially, prospered against Vettori, but Wiseman brought
some respect back into the scorecard
Doull has bowled well, without reward, and the Waugh brothers will
want to push on after lunch, on a pitch that should be farly easy
to play on, moreso as the day goes on.

27.3 Wiseman to ME Waugh, no run, turning past the edge

So Australia bounce staight back into this match, picking up four
wickets in the last 17 overs of the day
The New Zealand batsmen have a fight on their hands when they come
out tomorrow, with Warne turning it sharply, on a pitch that seems
eagre to have the game over in three days
Good Morning from Eden Park for the second day of the first test
        between Australia and New Zealand
Overnight rain has left the outfield very damp, and although the
pitch block was well covered and the pitch itself looks fine,
there may be a short delay to the start of play as the ground
        dries out
Overhead, conditions are overcast, with heavy cloud hanging about,
and a heavy humid atmosphere which will aid any swing the
Australian bowlers will get this morning
The weather is expected to clear to a fine summers day, though
there may be some light showers as the day progresses
The New Zealand batsmen wll have had the hard word from the coach
and captain, and will look to come out and stick around longer
than the opening order, aiming to recover a disasterous start and
look for a total somewhere near the 200 mark
The Australians will look to continue their fine bowling form, this
pitch being taylor made for Warne's assault on the Australian Test
        wicket record
It may be a while before Warne gats a bowl however, as Lee and
McGrath will be rubbing their hands with glee, looking at
        conditions this morning
A further update: Play will be delayed a few minutes as the light
is poorer now than when they finished last night. The ground
lights are being turned on but will take a few minutes to warm up.
Play will begin 10 minutes late
The lights will remain on, unless there is sunshine, where both
captaiins have agreed to turn the lights off

Match State: Play to resume at 10:40am local time

The Australians are coming out onto the field now

and that's the end of the morning session, once again the pitch
causing considerable difficulty for the batsmen, especially with
Warne bowling well, almost unplayable at time
While Fleming and Astle were together, things looked promising for
New Zealand, but with both wickets falling within 3 balls, the
tone of the innings changed somewhat.
McMillan played as if he was resigned to getting out, and went

and now he does, so that's it for today from Eden park
So there is the end of the second days play, with only 11 wickets
        falling today
Australia must be in a dominant position with five wickets
remaining and a lead of 165 on a pitch that is difficult to bat
        on.
Given the form of the remainder of New Zealands batsmen today,
Australia wll feel confident if they can push on tomorrow and push
        the lead up over 200
New Zealand will need to take early wickets tomorrow if they are to
remain in this game. Daniel Vettori will be their main hope,
having already taken 8 wickets in the match, and only one away
        from 100 test wickets
Australia will look to Warne to finish off the Kiwi's and move on
to take the Autralian test wicket record.
Play resumes tomorrow at 10:30 am local time (21:30 GMT)

Match State: Day 3 - Play due to resume at 10:30am (21:30 GMT)

Welcome to an overcast and blustery day in Auckland, for the third
days play in this 1st test for the Trans Tasman trophy
Conditions are fairly dark, and it is expected that if there is no
rain before play, then play will once again begin under lights
The forecasts indicate there is some showers on the way, and
possably a period of rain later this afternoon, but with the game
so far progressed after just two days, we are in no danger of
having to sit out a draw
the heavy atmosphere this morning may aid the swing bowlers, and we
may see Doull and Cairns open the attack this morning, before
returning to the spinners who have been so successful
the Umpires and New Zealanders returning to the field now
The lights are on again, making sure that we start on time today

So the bad weather that has been threatening all morning has blown

The rain is a bit harder this time folks, and we may be in for an
early lunch break. The wind is quite strong, so it should blow
        through fairly quickly
Vettori now has his best match figures (previous 9-130 vs Sri lanka
in Hamilton), and one more wicket would give him the best match
        figures by a NZ spnner
the umpres have decided this will hang around for a bit and Lunch
        has been taken
Well, the weather has clered up considerably, but there still light

        runups and pitch block
The super-sopper is out drying the outfield, but there will be a
        delay before play resumes
Light rain has continued through lunch, and while it cleared enough
for the ground staff to start drying the covers out, the rain has
returned in the last few minutes, and we may be in for a delay of
        some time
The umpires have announced there will be no play for at least
another hour, and they will inspect the pitch at 2:00pm (13:00
        GMT)
Ground staff are lifting the covers now, after an extensive period
        of removing water from them
The sky is still pretty dark, but there is no rain falling
Play will resume at 2:30pm local time (01:30 GMT)

So we go into the fourth day, New Zealand needing 130 runs, with 5
        wickets in hand
Warne is left with 355 wickets, equal with Lillee and on a pitch
that is still taking turn, although the New Zealanders have played
        him well this session
Australia wouldve been confident with a lead of 280, and with
Fleming going at 43, they may have been looking at a couple of
        days off.
It was the out of form McMillan who came out and took the attack to
the bowlers, his 50 coming of exactly 50 balls, before closing up
shop somewhat towards the end of the day
If Cairns and McMillan can continue for a period tomorrow, this
promises to be a very tense finish, with Warne also looking for
        the record taking wicket.
Lets not forget Vettori earlier on, taking a very good 7-87,
together with his 5 wickets in the first innings, New Zealands
second best ever test match figures
play resumes half an hour earlier tomorrow at 10:00am local time
(21:00 GMT). join us then to see what happens
Good morning from a wet, damp Auckland, where we have the wonderful
sight of pools of water on the outfield
and so any chance of play is unlikely this morning, and the general
thought is that we will take an early lunch and hope to start play
        at 1:00pm (0:00 GMT)
some of the pools of water are ankle deep, so even with the ground
staff working flat out, it will take a while
The players haven't even left their hotels yet, and wont for some
        time
Update (11:00am): The outfield has cleared, and some of the plyers
are kicking around a football on the outfield, but there are still
some damp spots, and play will not begin in the near future
Update 11:20: Lunch will be taken early at 12:30pm, and the umpires
will inspect the ground at 1:30pm, with a view towards starting at
        1:45pm (0:45 GMT)
Update (12:50pm): light rain falling again, covers coming out
the rain is really bucketing down now, and with the field so
waterlogged from last night, it is unlikely that play will begin
        today
and now 1:30pm) the rain is easing off, but there is nothing
        happening on the field yet
The only point of interest in the ground is the press trying to
solve the dilemma of what to write about today
The umpires are currently out on the ground, looking at the
surface. There is no rain at the moment, but the ground is very
        wet
Light rain resumes, causing the ground staff who have spent the
lest 20 minutes clearing water off the cover, to give up in
        disgust
Update (2:10pm): After conferring with the ground staff, the
umpires have decided to abandon today's play
So New Zealand manage to stretch their innings into the third day,
and Eden Park is saved the dubious honour of being the first venue
where lights were used for every day of a test
Play will resume at 10:00am (21:00 GMT) tomorrow morning, weather
        permitting
Good morning from Eden Park, for what hopefully is the final days
play of this Trans Tasman Trophy test match
The ground is a lot drier than yesterday evening, despite heavy
        thunderstorms overnight
predictions are that we will be ready for play around lunch time
The umpires will inspect the ground at 10:00am (21:00 GMT)
Update (10:10am): Umpires have inspected the ground, and if there
is no further rain, play will begin at 11:30am (22:30 GMT)

Match State: Start delayed due to overnight rain - Play at 11:30am (22:30 GMT)

Thankfully we have had no rain since the umpires inspecton at
10:00am, and we are set to resume play after a lengthy delay
There are heavy clouds around, and it has apparently been raining
in the centre of the city, only about 1km away
but at the moment the sunlight is almost getting through the clouds
and we should be able to enjoy a period of play before lunch
and now for the first time in a while the players and umpires
        return to the field
currently it is overcast, cold, and windy, and I'm sure the
Australian fielders won't be particularly comfortable tody

Warne becomes the highest wicket taker in Australian test cricket
        history
Surpassing the great Dennis Lillee's 355 wickets, in his 82nd
match, averaging about 25 runs per wicket, after bowling about
        3800 overs
16 five wicket bags and 4 10 wicket hauls, a best of 8-71
Like him or not, one cannot deny the impact he has had on the art
        of cricket
he leads his team mates off the field, to a heart round of
applause. Incedendally that also ends the match, Autralia winning
        by 62 runs
A match that has been dramatic in it's ups and downs, Australia
slightly on top throughout the game, but New Zealand fighting
hard, and it was a very interesting game
The Australians also equal the Australian record for consecutive
test wins, and will look to extend the run to 9 in the second test
        starting on the 24th March
Before that, the Australiand play a tour match against Central
        Districts, on Saturday 18 March.
