ARAVINDA de Silva made an impact with both bat and ball as Sri Lanka coasted to an eight-wicket victory over an English Cricket Board XI.
The former Kent all-rounder, captaining the side in the absence of Arjuna Ranatunga, took three for 12 off 10 overs with four maidens as the ECB XI made just 141 off their 50 overs. De Silva then hit an unbeaten 53 as the Sri Lankans, warming up for the triangular one-day tournament with England and South Africa, reached their target in just over 28 overs.
Chasing 142 to win, Sri Lanka got off to a decent start but lost Russel Arnold for 31 and Marvan Atapattu for 23 in the space of two overs. That brought in de Silva and Hashan Tillekeratne, who made 20 not out, and the pair steered Sri Lanka to the easiest of victories.
Earlier, an ECB side made up of players from Minor Counties and first-class counties' second XIs, got off to a good start through Surrey's under-19 coach, Malcolm Roberts, and Devon's Nick Gaywood.
But Niroshan Bandaratilleke took both their wickets in the space of two balls and only one more run was added before Jon Robinson was caught behind off Umul Chandana for a duck.
