SATURDAY'S seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh, last year's winners of the ICC Trophy, re-opened the question of Scotland's international status.
Bangladesh, ranked 10th in the world, have already been granted full one-day international recognition and SCU chairman John Everett believes it is now time for Scotland to be similarly recognised.
His view is shared by Bangladesh team manager Bobby Alam. ``The facilities here in Scotland are certainly much better than we have at home,'' he said.
Choosing to bat first on a dry wicket, Bangladesh were soon in disarray when James Brinkley dismissed both Azam Iqbal and Mohammed Rafique.
Craig Wright immediately trapped Aminul Islam lbw and shortly afterwards won a similar decision against Naimur Rahman while Gavin Hamilton had Akram Khan caught behind from an away swinger.
Hamilton beat the bat time after time without further reward but when Ian Stanger was given the ball, Bangladesh were in deep trouble on 49 for six, Douglas Lockhart taking his third catch behind to remove Khaled Mahmud.
Faruque Ahmed stood alone in resisting what coach Jim Love later described as a fully professional bowling performance, once whipping Wright over the leg-side boundary and eventually going on to a highly-combative half century.
George Salmond was to use seven bowlers and it was the spin of Keith Sheridan that saw the end of Ahmed's brave innings, caught in the deep. He had faced 108 balls and his innings of 50 had included four boundaries and that six. Gregor Maiden also picked up a wicket through a brilliant catch at mid-wicket by Bruce Patterson and finally Hamilton returned to finish the job as Bangladesh subsided to 97 all out.
Scotland also started shakily as both Patterson and Salmond played on and Lockhart was caught behind in a fiery opening spell by Hasibul Hussain and Mohammed Ali Khan but Steve Crawley and Stanger steadied the ship and sensibly guided Scotland to victory with over 16 overs in hand. Crawley finished it off with a six over square-leg to reach an unbeaten 45, an innings which earned him the man of the match award.
