Bangladesh posted a hard-fought two-wicket victory over an under-strength Scottish side at the Greenock Cricket Club in Glenpark, Scotland yesterday.

According to a faxed message, the hosts fielded only Patterson out of the eleven cricketers from the team that beat Bangladesh by 39 runs in the opening game of the three-match Cairn Trophy series on Saturday.

The new-look side was restricted to 207 for six in 50 overs after opting to bat thanks to some steady bowling by Khaled Mahmud, Mohammad Rafique and Enamul Haque.

Medium-pacer Mahmud was the most economical conceding only 21 runs for a wicket in his ten overs. Left-arm spinner Enamul captured two wickets for 33 runs while Rafique had figures of one for 31. Besides, left-arm seamer Morshed Ali Khan and offee Naimur Rahman got a wicket apiece.

For Scotland one down Simpson scored highest 45 followed by Bee and Gourlay who were unbeaten on 38 and 27 respectively.

In reply, Bangladesh reached 208 in the penultimate over with two wickets to spare.

Left handed opener Rafique gave Bangladesh a blistering start hammering 38 off 36 balls. He was ably supported by right-hand partner Azam Iqbal who chipped in with 30 off 44.

After the dismissal of both the openers in quick succession, veteran middle-order Faruque Ahmed steadied the Bangladesh innings with a 75-run third-wicket partnership with vice-captain Aminul Islam

The stand was broken when Faruque was clean bowled on 45 by Sheridan, the most successful Scotland bowler with three for 33.

After Faruque's departure with Bangladesh firmly placed on 152 for three, the tourists found themselves in trouble, losing five more wickets within the next 34 runs before wicketkeeper Atiar Rahman and left handed Enamul took the visitors home without any further damage.

Bangladesh will play a three-day match against Scotland starting at Forthill today.
