Ribblesdale League: Leaders Padiham slip up, then recover

PADIHAM let their 100 per cent record slip on the first day of a hectic double header weekend for the Vaux Ribblesdale League.

Champions Cherry Tree and Earby are hot on their trail after two wins each.

Clitheroe took the honours after setting a target of 193-6 with Neil Bolton leading the way on 58.

Padiham looked to be in control until a tail-end collapse, Mark Harvey scored 77 and Tripathi added 52 early in the innings.

Baxenden had Dave Usher to thank for their two wicket win over Blackburn Northern. Usher scored 62 while earlier Ryan Maron scored 60 for the home side.

Cherry Tree beat Whalley by four wickets with David Hayes scoring half century.

Great Harwood rattled up the highest total of the day with fireworks from Daniel Cheesbrough who scored 84 off 76 balls and Alan Armer 83 not out off 68 deliveries.

Professional Charles Dagnall then took five wickets as Edenfield were bowled out in the final over.

Earby collected five points from Oswaldtwistle Immanuel with opener Nigel Hodge scoring 54.

Barnoldswick beat Ribblesdale Wanderers despite an impressive all-round performance from Shahid Nawaz who scored 107 not out and took five wickets. Barnoldswick professional Paul Beech had the final say with an impressive 89 to reach victory. Settle bowled Read out for 99 after setting a target of 145-5.

On Sunday Padiham returned to winning ways with a five wicket victory over Read who saw professional Kashif Ibrahim scored 77.

Earby had the upper hand in their derby match with Barnoldswick. The Applegarth professional Jonathan Harvey scored 93, but Barnoldswick were left holding on with nine wickets down after opener Ian Scothern played an anchor innings of 53.

Cherry Tree trounced Blackburn Northern who struggled to 140-7 with professional Ryan Maron scored 74.

But Cherry Tree coasted to victory by nine wickets with David Hayes 67 and Gary Bolton 48 not out.

Dave Usher scored his first century of the season for Baxenden and was backed up by Mark Rishton (51) but found themselves on the losing side against Edenfield after professional John Ashley scored 58.

Great Harwood captured a 102 run victory over Oswaldtwistle with Alan Armer 103 and Paul Holdsworth 63 not out. Andrew Hornsby took six wickets but at a cost of 106 runs before Oswaldtwistle were dismissed for 155.

Ribblesdale beat neighbours Clitheroe with an impressive performance from Nawaz 65 and Briggs 63. Clitheroe were dismissed for 116.

Settle took seven points from Whalley despite being bowled out for 145 with professional Surendra Bhave scoring 77. Mark Fallon rattled up 96 of Whalley's run, but they were dismissed for 132.
