Promising cricketer and former Antonian opener, Sajith Fernando has been retained as Sri Lanka 'A' captain while Sri Lanka Test paceman Chaminda Vaas has been given a chance to prove his fitness and form in the second four-day unofficial cricket Test against the visiting South Africa 'A begining at Welagedara Stadium, Kurunegala on Saturday.

Fernando, has been shaping well with the bat and toured South Africa with the Sri Lanka u-24 team in 1992. He scored 44 runs in the rain-hit first unofficial Test at Asgiriya Stadium, Kandy.

Paceman Vaas, after his recent ankle operation in South Africa, will come out for the first time in an international match. Vaas is expected to join the Sri Lanka national team, currently in England, before a three-nation one day international tournament and one-off Test against England from mid next month.

Vass has been out of action since Sri Lanka's two-Test tour of South Africa early this year and missed the three-Test home series against New Zealand and the Singer-Akai Nidahas trophy tournament.

The other members of the Sri Lanka 'A' team are Avishka Gunawardena, Upeka Fernando, Sanjeeva Ranatunga, Manoj Mendis, Malintha Warnapura, T.M. Dilshan, Tilan Samaraweera, Indika Gallage and Test leg spinner Malinga Bandara.

Indika de Saram, Eric Upashantha and Rushira Perera have been named as reserves.
