KIMBERLY, South Africa, Tuesday - A class batting act by big
burly Inzamam Ul Haq who made a blazing unbeaten 116 and
regained his form at the vital moment steered Pakistan to a four
wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the Standard Bank One-day
triangular series here today. Pakistan made 300 for the loss of
6 wickets in reply to Sri Lanka's 295 for 7 in 49 overs. Haq was
first shown the way by the hard-hitting Imtiaz Ahmed who fired a
quick 59 in 55 balls. Together they put on 80 in 90 balls which
put them on the victory trail. Haq's batting was a treat to
watch. He was all power and timing as he lashed 3 fours and 4
sixes in his hundred which came off just 101 deliveries.
In all he hit 4 fours and 4 sixes. The Sri Lankans disappointed
again. True they made a massive 295. But they did not have the
bowlers to restrict or bowl out the Pakistanis and until they
can find the bowlers to do so, no amount of runs they score is
going to be of any avail.
Sri Lanka's two elder cricketing statesmen Aravinda de Silva and
Arjuna Ranatunga took them to a big total with great knocks of
86 and 62 but that was all forgotten in the batting blast of
Inzamam.
