SUNLG: Review of R18: 5, 7 Sep 1993

AXA Equity & Law Sunday League : September 5th 1993

SOMERSET v GLOUCS: Taunton
Umpire Ray Julian described the Taunton pitch as very poor for
Sunday cricket after Gloucestershire beat Somerset by three wick-
ets in a low scoring match. Somerset never came to terms with
the uneven bounce and were all out for 111 in 41.5 overs. Andy
Caddick removed Gloucs' openers and spinner Mushtaq Ahmed kept up
the pressure with 3 17 in 10 overs but the visitors got home by
three wickets.

DURHAM v NOTTS: Chester le Str
Wayne Larkins hit his third one day century in eight days to car-
ry Durham to a three wicket win against Notts. Durham esta-
blished their best Sunday sequence of five successive wins as
they passed Nottinghamshire's total of 260 6 with 11 balls to
spare. Larkins made 128 to record his second century of the
weekend after scoring 107no against Yorkshire in the Northern
Electric Trophy at Scarborough.

LEICS v YORKS: Leicester
Michael Foster hit a brilliant century in only his sixth Sunday
League innings to inspire Yorkshire to a 65 run win over
Leicestershire at Grace Road. Foster hammered the home attack
for 118 off 70 balls with eight sixes and seven fours as Yorks
piled up 318 7 their highest Sunday League total. Despite 49
from James Whitaker and 71 from Phil Robinson Leics were earlier
253 all out and slumped to a 10th loss

SURREY v HANTS: The Oval
Pakistan paceman Waqar Younis turned in a superb all round per-
formance as Surrey beat Hants by 77 runs to consolidate third
place in the table. After whacking Hants' bowling for a Sunday
best 39 in 48 balls as Surrey made 213 Waqar weighed in with 3
29 to help bundle out the opposition for 136. Waqar's haul in-
cluded two wickets in successive balls shattering the stumps of
Cardigan Connor and James Bovill.

KENT v NORTHANTS: Canterbury
Nigel Llong hit his highest Sunday score helping Kent back to the
top of the table and set up a title showdown at home to Glamorgan
on September 19. Llong cracked an unbeaten 64 as Kent beat
Northamptonshire by three wickets with three overs to spare to go
two points ahead of the Welsh county. Batting first Northants
had managed 165 8 Mal Loye top scoring with 22. Apart from
Llong Kent also struggled.

WORCS v LANCS: Worcester
Lancashire skipper Neil Fairbrother and Nick Speak shared a cen-
tury partnership to clinch a six wicket success over Wor-
cestershire at New Road. The pair joined forces with Lancashire
69 3 after Graeme Hick had removed Graham Lloyd (35) and John
Crawley in three balls. Speak hit 55 off 91 balls and skipper
Fairbrother (56no) hit the winning runs to take Lancs passed
Worcs' 188 9 total
