Day 1 : Patna, Nov 30
Mediumpacer Sanjeev Sinha struck in the dying moments to put
Bihar back in the match on the opening day of the Pepsi Ranji
trophy match here today. Assam ended the day on 293 for five
after electing to bat. Sanjeev, who had begun his spell during
the last 30 minutes of play after skipper Saba Karim took the new
ball in the 81st over, claimed the wickets of centurian Chan-
drakant Pandit for 111 and followed it up by knocking down the
stumps of danger man Rajesh Bora. Bora made only four. The two
wickets has swung initiative towards Bihar as Assam at one stage
were 276 for three. Pandit came to the rescue of his team after
paceman Dhananjay Singh making use of the early morning mist,
claimed Devajeet Chakravarti and Lalchand Rajput for 39. Devajeet
was out leg before for six while Rajput was caught by wicket
keeper Suraj Narayan Lal for 24. (***no Karim!!!***) Pandit went
on to complete his eight century in his 56th Ranji match which
came off 107 balls with the help of 19 fours and a five which
came off an overthrow from Sanjeev Sinha off his own bowling.
Pandit was particularly severe against Sanjeev and spinner Sanjay
Ranjan, playing exquisite cover drives and did not hesitate to
pull at anything which was pitched short.
