Issue 2, November 26 1999
Editorial
By John Ward

Welcome to the second issue of Zimbabwe cricket's weekly on-line magazine. First of all, a word of thanks to those who wrote in to express their appreciation of the Zimbabwe Cricket On-line magazine or who had helpful comments or suggestions to make or questions to ask. And a particular word of thanks to those who sent their messages of appreciation and encouragement to the Zimbabwe team, who go into the Second Test in Harare tomorrow as I write - weather permitting! Marvellous Marvan Atapattu Marvellous Marvan: Atapattu Defies Zimbabwe In First Test
Review by John Ward
The Zimbabweans were convinced they had trapped Marvan Atapattu (pictured right) lbw to Guy Whittall just after he had reached his fifty on the second day. Television replays seemed to uphold the view that it was a very good shout, and had the umpire's finger gone up the course of the First Test match in Bulawayo might have been very different. Zimbabwe Cricket Union vice-president Dave Everington talks to John Ward about the major developments taking place at Zimbabwe's leading venues. [more]

The day Zimbabwe beat Sri Lanka by an innings

Zimbabwe have never beaten Sri Lanka in a Test match, although there are eleven players and one coach who will be prepared to swear that they should have done two years ago, in the infamous Colombo Test. But the first time the two teams met was before Zimbabwe gained Test status, before they even played in the World Cup. Sri Lanka, newly elected to Test status themselves, toured Zimbabwe back in 1982/83 to meet a Zimbabwe team captained by the England coach of today, Duncan Fletcher. [more]

INTERVIEWS

Gary Brent Gary Brent's First Test Match

"It was an incredible feeling, a culmination of things for me, the most important day of my life so far. I've worked all my life for this. My one-day match here against Australia was incredible but this was a lot more so. Unfortunately it was very short-lived." [more | Scorecard]
Craig Wishart Raring To Go Again After Injury

Craig Wishart began the 1998/99 season in prime form, but a mixture of reduced opportunity, with the return of Grant Flower after injury, and a run of bad luck culminated in his being omitted from the World Cup touring party. Then at the start of the new season he suffered a knee injury which kept him out of cricket for almost two months. John Ward spoke to him and found him positive and eager to regain his place in the national side. [more]

Neil Johnson on the Bulawayo Test

"Vaas is a lovely bowler and so's Wickramasinghe; this young guy Gallage hits the seam nicely, but it's their spinners that are strongest; Muralitharan is superb. He can turn it on anything and he's a dangerous customer." [more]
