Welcome to the 7th issue of Zimbabwe cricket's weekly on-line magazine. A
short issue this week in the absence of much international cricket, and contributors
enjoying their Christmas holidays.
In this issue:-

This week the editor looks at cricket coverage in the media and
how you can help contribute to Zimbabwe Cricket Online..
A New Year, after a two-week break for Zimbabwean cricketers, is a good time for previews
and summaries, with the major international tours to the country behind us and a different
programme ahead. In this issue we include hopefully all the statistics you will want to
know about Zimbabwe's recent international cricket, including updated records in Test
and one-day internationals.

GUEST COLUMN
Des Evans on the state of the national team
Des Evans is a former national wicket-keeper and now a television
commentator in Zimbabwe. Here he gives his views about the state
of the Zimbabwe team.
"I believe that the biggest problem that the Zimbabwe team has
experienced so far this season is the inability to put the three
disciplines of batting, bowling and fielding together on a
consistent basis in a one-day international or in a single day of
a Test. Their performance has been inconsistent."

BIOGRAPHIES
Craig Evans has been one of Zimbabwe's most frustrating cricketers. Although abounding
in natural talent, in the past he often appeared not to take the game seriously enough
and to waste the opportunities he had. Craig himself admits that in the past he lacked
full commitment to the game, but in his late twenties his priorities changed. He achieved
his aim of a regular place in the national one-day team, although his hopes of becoming an
established Test player look like remaining unfulfilled.

Martin Lauritsen of Australia (see Letters page) was the first reader to answer successfully the quiz question in the last issue:
Against which country did Zimbabwe play its first-ever Test match in the 1992/93 season?
Answer: India.
Mr Lauritsen was most quickly followed by Donald Gibbs (Australia), Trevor

DOMESTIC CRICKET
Club News
The national club league starts again this weekend after a
three-month break. Old Hararians are the only club with a 100% record; their match
against MacDonald Club was postponed at the last minute due to
the inability of the latter to field a team. They play the
bottom club, Manicaland.

U19 update
Manager Win Justin-Smith talks about the Zimbabwe Under-19 team recently returned from
the Coca-Cola Week in South Africa, and their preparations for the Under-19 World Cup.
The Under-19s flew to Johannesburg on Wednesday 15 December. We were met at the airport
and taken up to Potchefstroom, where we were billeted at the Potchefstroom Boys High
School. The first day the official photographs were taken and then we were taken to watch
the day-night game between North West and Border at their new stadium.
