Gary Kirsten set the tone for the South African assault on the
tri-series by scoring a masterly unbeaten 133 against India at
Johannesburg. The left-handed batsman amassed 373 runs off
five knocks in the middle, which included two centuries and a
fifty. Kirsten struck a cracking 87 against India in the final
to power South Africa to a glorious win. Kirsten averaged
93.25 with the bat and the runs came at a strike rate of
84.77, truly remarkable even by his own standards. The opening
batsman will be the man to watch out for during the Test
series.
