Cricket is a game rich in tradition. ‘Cricket should be played in whites.’ All very well saying really, but things have changed plenty in recent times. With coloured clothing becoming standard for almost all limited overs clashes, cricket has looked to embrace the more glitzy aspects of other sports. In places like the United States of America, a variety of games like basket ball and football have already perfected the art of hyping things up to a maximum. In recent series played in India we have been witness to a new phenomenon organised, sometimes even sponsored, groups of cheerleaders in the stands. Purists have raised eyebrows at the fancy costumes and glitzy music, however, it’s something that has caught the imagination of the spectators.
