Captain Steve Tikolo was the lone Kenyan batsman to offer any
resistance. After struggling initially, he came on his own,
smashing two sixes and one four in a Yuvraj over. Tikolo went on
to make 56 while Collins Obuya chipped in with 29 as thei team
recovered from 107/7 to a face-saving 179 all out. The 91-run win
that India earned, though, was an emphatic enough result for
their flag-waving supporters, who greeted their team's entry into
the World Cup for the first time in 20 years with unalloyed joy
in the stands at Durban. Their biggest cheer was reserved for
Ganguly, who went on to end one of the most satisfying matches in
his career, being crowned the Man of the Match.
