Sourav Ganguly, though, would not be denied on the day. India's best slow-wicket player in ODIs began watchfully but then unveiled a dazzling array of shots. In his unbeaten 114-ball 111, the Indian skipper smote five boundaries and five cracking sixes. The left-hander's shot selection was spot on, with the exception of one across the line heave to a Collins Obuya googly. When he walked down the wicket and launched Martin Suji into the stands at long on to reach three figures, Ganguly brought up his third century of this World Cup and the 22nd of his career. His contribution along with that of Tendulkar went a long way towards ensuring that India finished with a potentially match-winning score of 270/4.
