Whereas it was Andy Bichel who destroyed England, it was Andy
Caddick who made the breakthrough for England. In the third over
of the Australian innings, Caddick snared Matthew Hayden with a
short ball. Twelve balls later the Somerset and England quick
added the scalp of the other opener Adam Gilchrist. Just three
balls later, he trapped Damien Martyn lbw. If England's chances
hadn't brightened by then they definitely did when Caddick
removed Australian skipper Ricky Ponting with the fourth ball of
the ninth over. Four scalps for the 34-year-old quick had put
England on course for an unlikely win.
