England got off to a shocking start, Nick Knight committing hara- kiri in the second over, tapping the ball to the off side and taking off for an impossible single, Mohd Kaif swooped on the ball, and with just one stump to aim at – had a shy at the stumps – diving forward – all in one action. It was a brilliant dismissal, and one that pumped up and raised the performance of the whole Indian team. Marcus Trescothick tried everything to get an outside edge, and got out attempting a pull off Zaheer Khan. England had lost both their openers with just 18 runs on the board, and a successful run chase under lights was looking highly unlikely.
