Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar walked out to open the Indian innings after Heath Streak won the toss and elected to bowl. It was Sehwag who first established India's authority on the match with two effortless drives through the covers in Andy Blignaut's first over. Two more off-side fours came in Blignaut's next over, who was soon take off. After making 36 off 38 balls, though, Sehwag had to suffer the mortification of seeing his sweet cameo being brought to an end.
